Operations Manager

Role & responsibilities

Strategy & Planning:

• Develop integrated strategy and plan for the plant including Planning, Production, Technical, Maintenance and Quality Control in alignment with department objectives
• Develop and implement short- and long-term plans to ensure that the Plant has the necessary resources to meet desired objectives
• Facilitate cascading of the short- and long-term plans to the sub-units and enable monitoring
• Track new developments in the market in terms of technologies and customer preferences to keep pace with the industry
• Develop and implement a continuous improvement plan for efficiency improvement and wastage reduction

Financial

• Work closely with the Planning, Production, Quality Control, Technical and Maintenance Heads to plan the budget for the entire Plant.
• Regularly monitor cost of production and ensure adherence to the plant and department budgets, without compromising on the effectiveness; Investigate deviations and implement mitigation measures in time
• Ensure reductions in scrap cost, in- process wastage cost, maintenance cost, energy cost, etc
• Drive the productivity improvement initiatives and cost cutting measures
• Oversee the capex investments for the plant

Operational

Plant Operations and Production

• Drive top-line and bottom-line growth for the plant through diligent use of man, machine and material
• Ensure high operational efficiency at the plant by periodically reviewing reports from all the teams; provide required support and resolve any escalations
• Monitor performance of the plant through performance parameters against set goals on a periodic basis; identify deviations / issues, if any, and ensure that corrective action is discussed, finalized, and implemented in a timely manner
• Plan, implement and monitor the production plan and review target achievement and actions to enhance production quality, capacity utilization and improving overall plant productivity
• Ensure plant operations are carried out in a safe and environment compliant manner as per statutory norms
• Continuously review and monitor the activities of the Production and other delivery teams to ensure smooth delivery with adherence to all required parameters
• Improve productivity through implementation of latest manufacturing tools, techniques, and concepts
• Undertake corrective actions to be implemented in the Plant in case of emergencies, disruption of operations, breakdown of equipment or quality concerns and manage any escalations of risks, as required
• Review trends and sequence of events during instances of failure / breakdown with Maintenance manager; Assess Plant problems identified and provide guidance on mitigation strategies to avoid future / repeat incidents to enforce safety requirements
• Oversee planning and implementation of maintenance schedules and shutdowns to improve plant availability, reduction in breakdown and decrease mean time between repetitive failures

Quality, Technical, Compliance and Risk Management

• Promote excellence in manufacturing practices and ensure exceeding quality standards across the Plant
• Ensuring operating efficiencies are maximum, with continuous improvement
• Ensure every shipment is early or on time.
• Work closely with the Technical Head to ensure smooth production by looking into technical issues/ problems in production and finding out better solutions for production
• Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory requirements, provide comprehensive information on operations and production progress vis-à-vis periodic budgets, and manage escalations as required
• Oversee audits and any other diagnostic study of controls / operations; Ensure timely resolution of observations and issues raised in Non-Compliance Reports

Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability

• Imbibe a culture of energy savings, efficient waste management and disposal, and compliance with environment regulations; Conceptualize and lead specific initiatives and action plans to ensure optimization of utilities and resources and establish best in class, sustainable practices to safeguard organizational interest across the Plant
• Oversee implementation of process safety management and behavioural based safety activities
• Drive compliance with regulatory, safety and environmental norms through periodic reviews of operating processes
• Periodically review overall compliance with regulatory norms

Stakeholder Management

• Proactively build harmonious relations with politically sensitive stakeholders such as workers and residents. Ensure periodic interactions and management of expectations for smooth plant operations
• Build positive relations with regulatory and local government bodies

People Management

• Ensure the team understands and adhere to the clear roles and accountabilities defined
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators of the direct reportees and counsel to facilitate their continued development
• Identify training and development needs of the team members and plan their training and development and follow up implementation
• Enable the team to perform effectively by delegating/assisting/guiding/counselling/developing team members
• Drive a transparent, performance driven and result oriented culture within the team
• Ensure succession planning for self and critical roles in the team

Preferred candidate profile

B. Tech/ MBA with Elastic manufacturing experience will be given preference.
