Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Engineering to lead and oversee the engineering function across multiple projects and teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering leadership, technical innovation, and project management, with a proven track record in overseeing large-scale, complex engineering operations. As the Director of Engineering , you will play a key role in shaping the company's technical strategy, driving engineering excellence, and ensuring that all engineering projects are completed successfully, on time, and within budget.

In this senior leadership role, you will collaborate with other executives and department heads to ensure alignment with company goals, establish engineering best practices, and manage resources effectively to meet both short- and long-term objectives. You will oversee engineering teams across various disciplines, set departmental goals, drive innovation, and ensure that the engineering organization is equipped to meet both current and future challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Strategic Direction:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering department, aligning team goals with the company's overall mission and objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire engineering teams across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, software, etc.) to ensure the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies that drive innovation, efficiency, and growth within the organization.
  • Act as a key decision-maker in the selection and deployment of engineering resources, technologies, and tools to optimize performance and project outcomes.

2. Project Oversight & Execution:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other departments to define project scope, requirements, and timelines.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, project plans, and deliverables, ensuring they meet technical, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Manage and resolve project issues, providing guidance and support to engineering teams and ensuring proactive risk management.
  • Ensure that all engineering efforts are coordinated effectively to meet customer expectations and project milestones.

3. Innovation & Technical Excellence:

  • Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team by encouraging the adoption of new technologies, processes, and industry best practices.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies, and ensure that the engineering department is leveraging cutting-edge tools and techniques.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, driving efficiencies in both engineering processes and technical execution.
  • Establish engineering standards and guidelines, ensuring that all designs, solutions, and deliverables are of the highest technical quality and compliance.

4. Team Development & Management:

  • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing engineering team by providing mentorship, career development opportunities, and regular performance feedback.
  • Develop a talent pipeline by identifying skill gaps and overseeing the recruitment and development of engineers with diverse skill sets.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team culture, promoting teamwork, open communication, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Establish clear performance metrics and track progress to ensure the department meets or exceeds goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership in resolving conflicts or issues within the team, ensuring a productive and professional work environment.

5. Resource Management & Budgeting:

  • Manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources across multiple projects.
  • Optimize resource utilization by balancing project needs with team capacity and capabilities, and by aligning with cross-functional departments.
  • Identify and address resource constraints, ensuring that projects are adequately staffed and resourced to meet timelines and objectives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce costs while maintaining high-quality engineering standards and performance.

6. Stakeholder & Client Management:

  • Serve as the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding engineering-related issues.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure the engineering team is delivering solutions that meet or exceed their expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, clients, vendors, and industry partners.
  • Provide regular updates to the executive team on project status, engineering initiatives, and departmental performance.

7. Compliance & Risk Management:

  • Ensure that all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
  • Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all deliverables meet both internal and external quality standards.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate engineering risks, including design, process, or technical challenges that could impact project outcomes or timelines.
  • Ensure that the engineering team is adequately prepared for audits, inspections, and other compliance-related activities.

8. Collaboration with Other Departments:

  • Work closely with the Product, Operations, Sales, and Marketing teams to ensure alignment across the organization and ensure seamless project execution.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to support technical proposals, bids, and client presentations.
  • Partner with IT, procurement, and manufacturing teams to ensure engineering solutions are practical, cost-effective, and executable.
