Job Description: Mathematics Teacher (A-Level/IGCSE - Cambridge Curriculum)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Mathematics Teacher to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching in Mathematics at A-Level/IGCSE (Cambridge Curriculum) to students aged 16-18. The role requires the teacher to inspire and engage students, fostering their confidence, critical thinking skills, and deep understanding of Mathematics.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Teaching

• Teach Mathematics at A-Level/IGCSE to students across different abilities, ensuring that lessons are engaging, challenging, and tailored to individual learning needs.
• Deliver lessons that stimulate intellectual curiosity, promote understanding, and encourage academic excellence.
• Plan and deliver lessons consistent with the published schemes of work, adapting content and delivery to suit the diverse needs of students, including those with SEND, EAL, or those who are more able’.
• Set high expectations for academic progress and classroom behavior, maintaining a positive and respectful classroom environment.
• Use innovative teaching methods and resources to enhance students' learning experience, incorporating ICT to support and extend learning.
• Ensure that teaching is differentiated appropriately, with a focus on student-centered learning.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback on students’ work to help them reflect, improve, and track their progress.
• Encourage a growth mindset by challenging students to achieve their highest potential.

Assessment & Reporting

• Take responsibility for the ongoing attainment and progress of students, including setting clear targets and assessing their work regularly.
• Mark and grade assignments in accordance with the school’s marking policy, ensuring constructive feedback for students' improvement.
• Write comprehensive academic reports, in line with the school's reporting schedule, to track student progress.
• Attend Parent-Teacher meetings to communicate with parents about their child’s progress and discuss academic development.
• Use formative and summative assessment data to inform lesson planning and adapt teaching strategies.

Wider Professional Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues within the Mathematics Department to share best practices, resources, and strategies to enhance the teaching of Mathematics.
• Provide cover for colleagues within the department and across the school as required.
• Assist with extra-curricular activities, such as Math clubs, competitions, and after-school support sessions, as directed by the Head of Department.
• Participate in staff development opportunities and contribute to the induction and professional development of new staff members.
• Engage fully in the school’s performance management and appraisal process.

Pastoral and Co-Curricular

• Act as a Personal Tutor to a group of students, supporting their well-being and personal development.
• Contribute to the wider pastoral and co-curricular life of the school, including involvement in school trips, enrichment activities, and other school events.
• Model high standards of behavior and discipline and support students in their personal growth both academically and socially.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

• A good honours degree in Mathematics or a closely related field (or equivalent).
• A proven track record of teaching Mathematics at A-Level and/or IGCSE in the Cambridge curriculum, with a strong understanding of the subject content and pedagogical approaches.
• A teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential.

Skills and Abilities

• Excellent subject knowledge and the ability to teach complex mathematical concepts with clarity.
• Ability to design and deliver engaging and challenging lessons that inspire students and promote a deep understanding of Mathematics.
• Skilled in using a variety of assessment methods to track and support student progress.
• Proficiency in using ICT tools to enhance teaching and learning.
• Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all students, including those with additional learning needs.
