At Progress, cloud computing allows us to modernize and consolidate infrastructure, automate workloads, and pursue next-generation innovation. To continue this transformation, we re seeking an experienced cloud engineer who has expertise in architecting and designing, and the implementation of large-scale projects in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of Cloud architecture design, strategic leadership, and Cloud service implementation and automation leveraging IaC (Terraform, Ansible, Chef). The Principal Cloud Engineer will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of product engineering and an ongoing impact on growth.
Objectives of this role
- Lead a team that will work in tandem with engineering teams to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
- Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance
- Provide guidance, thought leadership, and mentorship to developer teams to build their cloud competencies
- Provide infrastructure and observability to product teams ensuring application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards for code quality and thoughtful design
- Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security and compliance guidelines
In this role, you will:
- Partner with other Cloud Engineering leaders to drive the strategic goals, acting as a team lead driving the development and implementation of technical efforts to design, build, and deploy cloud applications, including large-scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modeling, and advanced analytics
- Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle for cloud solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures
- Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives, providing associated training when necessary
- Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
Your background:
- 4 years in a Cloud Engineering or similar role, with a proven track record of architecting and managing highly reliable and scalable systems.
- Strong programming and scripting skills, with proficiency in languages such as Python, .NET, Go, or Java.
- Deep understanding of cloud technologies and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration tools.
- Extensive experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Chef.
- Experience with Observability implementation and tools such as New Relic, Grafana, DataDog.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive resolution.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Extensive understanding of DevOps methodologies and practices.
- Extensive knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Proven leadership abilities, with experience leading technical teams and driving initiatives to successful outcomes.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Industry certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Google Cloud Professional Architect.
- Experience with implementing and managing microservices architectures.
- Experience with performance testing and optimization techniques.
