Senior Engineer

Position Overview:

The Senior Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, execution, and commissioning of drinking water projects, specifically focusing on the laying and installation of Mild Steel (MS) and Ductile Iron (DI) pipelines. This position requires technical expertise in pipeline installation, hydraulics, and water distribution systems, along with a strong ability to manage site activities, ensure quality standards, and meet project deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pipeline Installation and Commissioning

• Oversee the laying, welding, jointing, and testing of MS and DI pipelines for water distribution systems.
• Conduct detailed site surveys and prepare execution plans for pipeline alignment and trenching.
• Supervise pipeline bedding, alignment, and backfilling to ensure compliance with design standards.
• Perform pressure testing and flushing of pipelines to confirm structural and operational integrity.

2. Quality Assurance and Compliance

• Ensure all pipeline installation activities adhere to engineering specifications, safety protocols, and quality standards.
• Monitor the quality of materials, including MS and DI pipes, fittings, and jointing components.
• Conduct on-site inspections to detect and rectify defects during installation.

3. Project Execution and Site Management

• Lead and coordinate with site teams to ensure timely execution of pipeline installation and commissioning activities.
• Manage contractors, laborers, and equipment to maintain smooth operations at the site.
• Prepare daily progress reports, highlight challenges, and propose solutions to maintain project timelines.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of pipes and other materials to prevent damage.

4. Technical Support and Troubleshooting

• Provide technical guidance on welding, socket jointing, and push-fit techniques for MS and DI pipes.
• Address technical issues during installation, such as leakages, joint failures, or alignment deviations.
• Collaborate with design engineers to resolve conflicts between design specifications and site conditions.

5. Coordination with Stakeholders

• Liaise with project managers, contractors, and government officials to ensure project goals are achieved.
• Coordinate with procurement teams for the timely delivery of materials.
• Communicate technical updates and progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

6. Safety and Environmental Compliance

• Enforce safety protocols at the worksite to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of team members.
• Implement environmentally sustainable practices in pipeline installation and water distribution activities.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background:

• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Certification in pipeline installation, hydraulics, or water distribution systems is an advantage.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in drinking water projects, with a focus on MS and DI pipeline installation and commissioning.
• Proven track record of managing on-site pipeline installation activities.

Skills:

• Strong technical knowledge of MS and DI pipe properties, jointing techniques, and installation methodologies.
• Proficiency in pipeline testing procedures, including hydrostatic pressure tests.
• Familiarity with standards and guidelines for water distribution systems.
• Competence in using AutoCAD, GIS, and project management tools for pipeline design and planning.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in field environments.
