Deputy Project Manager

Position Overview:

The Deputy Project Manager will assist in the execution of a comprehensive drinking water project in India, focusing on the installation and maintenance of key infrastructure, including DI (Ductile Iron), HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), and GI (Galvanized Iron) pipelines, as well as the construction of overhead tanks. The role requires overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to engineering standards, and maintaining timelines and budgets while collaborating with multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning and Infrastructure Execution

• Assist the Project Manager in designing and implementing water distribution systems using DI, HDPE, and GI pipelines.
• Oversee the planning and construction of overhead water tanks, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Coordinate with engineering teams to finalize pipeline alignment and connection plans for optimal water distribution.
• Ensure seamless integration of new infrastructure with existing systems.

2. Technical Oversight

• Supervise the procurement and installation of DI, HDPE, and GI pipelines, ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
• Monitor the construction and commissioning of overhead tanks, including structural integrity checks.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve technical issues in pipelines, joints, and tanks.
• Troubleshoot and address technical challenges related to materials, hydraulics, and site conditions.

3. Stakeholder Coordination

• Liaise with local authorities, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of project components.
• Engage with community representatives to address concerns related to water distribution infrastructure.
• Facilitate discussions with engineering consultants to review technical designs and specifications.

4. Resource and Material Management

• Manage the supply chain for DI, HDPE, and GI pipelines, valves, and fittings, ensuring timely availability.
• Optimize the use of equipment and manpower to achieve project milestones efficiently.
• Monitor material quality through pre-installation inspections and quality tests.

5. Compliance and Safety

• Ensure that all project activities comply with relevant government regulations and safety standards.
• Oversee pressure testing of pipelines and structural testing of overhead tanks.
• Implement safety protocols at construction sites to prevent accidents.

6. Financial and Progress Reporting

• Track costs associated with DI, HDPE, and GI pipeline installations and overhead tank construction.
• Assist in preparing detailed financial and technical reports for project stakeholders.
• Document project progress, including milestones and challenges, for review by senior management.

7. Team Leadership and Training

• Lead and mentor field engineers and supervisors involved in pipeline installation and tank construction.
• Provide technical training to on-ground teams to ensure best practices in handling materials like DI, HDPE, and GI.
• Foster a collaborative work environment to achieve high-quality outputs.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Educational Background:

• Bachelors degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Water Resource Management, or a related field.
• Certification in pipeline design or water project management is an added advantage.

Experience:

• 10+ years of experience in water infrastructure projects, with specific expertise in DI, HDPE, and GI pipelines, and overhead tank construction.
• Hands-on experience with pipeline installation, pressure testing, and commissioning.

Skills:

• Proficiency in pipeline design and installation methodologies, including jointing, trenching, and laying.
• Knowledge of water distribution hydraulics and storage systems.
• Familiarity with standards for DI, HDPE, and GI pipeline materials.
• Proficiency in using CAD tools and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight timelines.
