Job Description

Job Summary:
The HR Generalist (Payroll Focus) will manage all payroll-related activities for faculty and staff, ensuring accurate and timely processing of wages, benefits, and deductions. In addition to payroll responsibilities, the role includes supporting general HR functions such as recruitment, employee relations, and performance management. The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of payroll systems, HR compliance, and an understanding of academic institutions.

Key Responsibilities:


Payroll Management:

    • Process payroll for all employees (faculty, staff, and temporary workers) on a monthly/bi-weekly basis.
    • Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, allowances, deductions, overtime, and bonuses.
    • Administer statutory benefits, including Provident Fund (PF), Gratuity, and Health Insurance.
    • Ensure timely submission of statutory deductions (taxes, PF contributions) to the relevant authorities.
    • Maintain confidentiality of payroll data and employee compensation details.
    • Handle queries related to payroll discrepancies and resolve them in a timely manner.

    • Recruitment and Staffing:
    • Manage recruitment and selection processes, including posting job openings, conducting interviews, and onboarding new employees.
    • Work with department heads to understand staffing needs and assist with the hiring process.
    • Ensure smooth and effective integration of new hires into the university.

    • Employee Relations:
    • Act as the first point of contact for employees HR-related queries, including payroll and benefits concerns.
    • Support in resolving conflicts, ensuring a positive and supportive work environment.
    • Assist in managing employee grievances, providing fair and consistent advice.

    • Compensation and Benefits:
    • Assist in structuring and administering compensation packages, ensuring equity and competitiveness.
    • Manage employee benefits programs, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
    • Monitor and review benefit enrollments, eligibility, and claims processing.

    • HR Administration:
    • Maintain up-to-date employee records and ensure compliance with all HR documentation requirements.
    • Prepare regular reports on payroll, employee attendance, and other HR metrics.
    • Assist with the preparation of year-end documentation and tax filings (e.g., Form 16, tax returns).

    • Compliance and Policy Management:
    • Ensure payroll compliance with applicable labor laws, tax regulations, and university policies.
    • Update and maintain HR policies and procedures related to payroll and benefits.
    • Conduct periodic audits to ensure accuracy in payroll records and adherence to internal controls.

    • Training and Development:
    • Assist in organizing HR training programs, focusing on payroll-related processes, legal compliance, and performance management.
    • Participate in continuous learning about HR best practices, tax laws, and payroll technology.Role & responsibilities
