Job Description
The Director of Employee Relations plays a vital role in maintaining a positive and productive work environment. This position is responsible for managing employee relations programs, addressing workplace issues, and ensuring compliance with labor laws.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement employee relations strategies and policies that align with organizational goals.
Act as the primary point of contact for employee grievances, ensuring prompt resolution in line with company policies and applicable laws.
Conduct thorough investigations into employee complaints, ensuring fairness and compliance with legal requirements.
Advise and train managers on employee relations matters, including performance management and conflict resolution.
Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure compliance with employment laws and assist with related legal matters.
Proactively identify potential employee relations issues and develop strategies to prevent or mitigate them.
Monitor labor relations trends and provide recommendations to senior management to enhance employee relations.
Serve as a liaison between management and union representatives, facilitating communication and negotiations.
Collaborate with HR to develop employee engagement initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture.
Maintain accurate records related to employee relations activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field; a Masters degree is preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in employee relations or a related role, particularly in a union environment.
Strong understanding of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and HR best practices.
Proven experience in negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations and develop proactive solutions.
Professional certifications such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP are desirable.
