Job Objective:

PhonePe is one of India s leading digital payment platforms, revolutionizing the way people send money, recharge their mobile phones, pay bills, etc. We are committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences through innovation and cutting-edge technology. Recharge & Bill Pay team focuses on providing a single platform to PhonePe users for all their recurring bill payments and recharges. The Category Manager for Recharge & BillPay will be responsible for driving the growth and performance of PhonePes Recharge and BillPay categories. This includes strategic planning, business development, customer acquisition, and maximizing revenue opportunities within these categories. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the customer experience, optimizing the product offering, and ensuring that PhonePe stays ahead of competitors in the highly dynamic and competitive market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Category Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy for the Recharge & BillPay categories
    • Identify emerging trends, competitor offerings, and new market opportunities to drive the evolution of the categories
    • Analyze customer needs and segment behaviors to create targeted product offerings and promotions
    • Drive category performance metrics including customer engagement, transaction volume, revenue growth, and profitability
    • Develop customer engagement strategies to maximize the lifetime value of users within the Recharge & BillPay categories.
    • Track campaign effectiveness and optimize marketing efforts based on performance data.
  • Product Development/Project Management:
    • Collaborate with product teams to innovate, optimize, and expand the Recharge & BillPay offerings
    • Ensure that the offerings are aligned with customer demands and provide a seamless user experience
    • Work closely with tech and product teams to ensure timely product releases, updates, and feature enhancements.
  • Partnerships & Biller Management:
    • Establish and manage strategic relationships with key vendors, telecom operators, bill payment partners, and third-party service providers.
    • Negotiate campaigns and new offerings with external partners to maximize value for both PhonePe and customers.
    • Ensure operational efficiency and manage biller performance to meet business goals.
  • Data & Insights:
    • Leverage data analytics to derive actionable insights on category performance, customer behavior, and market dynamics
    • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for category growth and user retention
    • Implement and monitor A/B testing and other optimization strategies to continuously improve product performance
  • Financial Management:
    • Create and manage the category s P&L, ensuring revenue targets are met
    • Prepare periodic reports (monthly & annual plans) on category performance and forecast future growth
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with sales, tech, marketing, operations, and customer support , legal, finance and treasury teams to ensure cohesive strategy and execution
    • Act as a subject matter expert on Recharge & BillPay trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 4+ years of experience in category management, business development, and product management, with a focus on digital payments, telecom services, or bill payments
  • Proven track record in driving revenue growth and delivering business results in highly competitive markets.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams and working with external partners.
  • MBA from tier 1 college preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and use of analytics tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Google Sheets, etc)
  • Excellent negotiation and partner management skills
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
