SOLARIS Job Description :
System Administration and Support :
- Solaris OS management, covering versions 9/10/11 and systems like T5, T7, M7.
Handle a spectrum of system administration tasks, including but not limited to :
- User and group management
- System start-up and shutdown
- Service modification and optimization
- Crontab entries management
- ACL modifications and file system management
- Root and ignite backups
Virtualization and Performance Optimization :
- Manage Oracle Solaris virtualization environments, encompassing LDOMs and Zones.
- Implement their sound knowledge in Solaris 9/10/11 Operating systems, with a focus on performance tuning and efficient issue troubleshooting.
Server Management and Backup :
- Utilize advanced tools for server management and backup, ensuring the reliability and availability of Solaris-based systems.
- Use proactive monitoring tools, such as open view, Tivoli, Big-brother, Data Protector, etc., for efficient issue detection and resolution.
- Employ backup management software like Legato, Net backup, TSM, VERITAS, Omni back, etc., for robust data protection.
Cluster Management and Storage Technologies :
- Manage SUN/VERITAS clusters effectively, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
- Using a fundamental understanding of various storage technologies to optimize system performance and storage utilization.
Adherence to SLAs and Escalation Management :
- Adhere to SLA response and resolution times, ensuring prompt and efficient service delivery.
- Implement a robust escalation matrix for timely resolution of complex issues and continuous improvement.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery :
- Lead and participate in Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) drills on a periodic basis.
- Ensure the readiness of the organization to handle unexpected events and maintain business continuity.
Certification and Continuous Learning :
- Maintain certifications in Solaris OS, to stay current with industry best practices.
- Encourage continuous learning within the team to adapt to evolving technologies and enhance skill sets.
Vendor Management and Outsourcing Oversight :
- Conduct regular vendor reviews to assess performance and adherence to service levels.
- Effectively manage outsourcing arrangements, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Communication and Soft Skills:
- Team will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, collaborating effectively with peers, vendors, and staff members.
- Team will maintain a professional, positive, and approachable demeanor, especially when handling confidential information.
- Team will formulate and clearly communicate ideas to various stakeholders, fostering effective collaboration.
Shift Operations and Global Support :
- Adapt to 24/7 shift operations, catering to the required Solaris OS support.
- Provide fluency in English and the primary language of the supported country or region.
Technical Communication and Documentation :
- Team will communicate technical content effectively, facilitating knowledge transfer within the team and to end-users.
- Team will ensure comprehensive documentation of processes, configurations, and issue resolutions.
ITSM Processes and Quality Assurance :
- Team will possess in-depth knowledge of ITSM processes for efficient call logging, tracking, and closure procedures.
- Implement quality assurance measures to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Deliverables :
The following detailed deliverables are considered :
- Regular progress reports.
- Incident reports.
- Documentation of installations and configurations.
- Scripts for day-to-day operations.
- Completed disaster recovery activities documentation.
