Head Steel plant maintenance

Role & responsibilities

To lead the mechanical maintenance and engineering functions of the integrated steel plant, ensuring high equipment reliability, minimal downtime, and adherence to safety and quality standards. The role involves strategic planning, preventive maintenance, team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives for mechanical systems across the plant.

2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Maintenance Management:

• Oversee the preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all mechanical equipment (e.g., Rolling mills, conveyors, cranes, compressors, pumps, Crusher, Dryer, Granulator, Kiln etc.).
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance and equipment availability.
• Minimize breakdowns and ensure maximum equipment uptime.
• Implement a robust maintenance management system (CMMS)

2. Technical Leadership:

• Provide technical expertise on mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major mechanical failures and implement corrective actions
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives for mechanical efficiency and reliability

3. Budgeting & Cost Control:

• Prepare and manage the mechanical maintenance budget
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or equipment integrity
• Optimize spare parts inventory and vendor management

4. Team Leadership & Development:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers, supervisors, and technicians
• Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement
• Conduct skill assessments and identify training needs for the team

5. Compliance & Safety:

• Ensure adherence to all safety, health, and environmental regulations
• Promote a culture of safety-first across all mechanical maintenance activities
• Ensure compliance with statutory and company safety norms (e.g., ISO, OSHA)

6. Collaboration & Reporting:

• Work closely with production, electrical, and quality departments for seamless plant operations.
• Provide regular reports on maintenance KPIs, downtime analysis, and project progress to senior management.
