Job Description

Technical Product Manager

The Technical Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for a portfolio of technology products within a business or functional unit. TPMs have accountability for the projects within their portfolio and oversight of the resources required to deliver on their portfolio commitments including squads, tribes and waterfall teams. They may have direct line management responsibility for IT business analysts and technical product SMEs. Other resources may be allocated from other functional and shared service teams to create the squads, tribes and project delivery teams. TPMs report into their business/functional CIOs and are evaluated and compensated against specific business and functional outcomes

What can you expect?

  • Manage software development projects from stakeholder need analysis, requirement gathering and analysis, planning, delivery strategy & coordination, documentation & reporting
  • Prepare Product Roadmaps, project plans, manage the costs of the application
  • Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and obtain broader buy-in across global stakeholders and also with different teams within IT
  • Organize and conduct project governance forums like Steering board, Project board and Working group meetings.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within the agreed cost, quality and timeline agreements
  • Assess risks and issues, provide remediation, escalate and drive to closure.
  • Co-ordinate with vendors for license renewals for tools and software used in the project.
  • Work with architect and support teams to help maintain stable and health applications in his/her portfolio

  • Responsible for maintaining the data in the application inventory to ensure accuracy and is updated regularly


We will count on you to:

  • Partner with business leaders, Data scientists, Product owners and domain architects to create and execute a multi-year vision for their portfolio of applications
  • Manage the portfolio budget and drive responsible development which is defined as on-time and on-budget development of new capabilities aligned to enterprise standards as well as appropriate ongoing management of those applications in partnership with MMC shared service leaders.
  • Responsible for a portfolio of technology products within a business or functional unit.
  • The TPM will balance CTB and RTB spend across the portfolio including planning around the application lifecycle. Eg when does an application move into steady state maintenance only mode.
  • Accountable for the projects within their portfolio and oversight of the resources required to deliver on their portfolio commitments including squads, tribes and waterfall teams.
  • May have direct line management responsibility for IT business analysts and technical product SMEs. Other resources may be allocated from other functional and shared service teams to create the squads, tribes and project delivery teams.
  • Report into their business/functional CIOs and are evaluated and compensated against specific business and functional outcomes.
  • Have Good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task and liaise with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of processes & best practices within the team & industry

What you need to have:
Technical Requirements

  • Proven experience in managing AI and ML technology strategy and approach of one or more products
  • Have a thorough and broad understanding of technology and how it can be used to solve business problems
  • Have a solid understanding of the business area to which their product portfolio relates including external market trends
  • Have experience of working in a senior leadership position and in partnering with senior business leaders in order to define strategies and product roadmaps
  • Have experience in technology strategy and roadmap planning together with related budgeting.
  • Have excellent stakeholder management and business engagement skills.
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Ability to present effectively to senior business leaders.
  • Have a solid understanding of security, privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Have a solid understanding of Agile, waterfall and hybrid methodologies
  • Any of the following technical qualifications would be beneficial, but are not essential to being successful in the role: Togaf, ITIL, Prince2, MSP, CISSP
  • Executed AI projects especially LLMs and or used other Data Science technologies
  • Good communication skills - both writing and speaking

  • Experience in the insurance industry is plus
