What s unique about this role

The system engineer role is responsible for complete management of the hardware, operating system, and non-application services of lighthouse Global Datacenter Services infrastructure. This role supports maximizing server availability, hardware and operating system configuration, performance reporting and tuning, capacity management, problem resolution, and testing. This includes solution formulation, implementation, documentation, and follow-up. The system engineer role requires attention to detail and 24 7 support availability by participating in an on-call rotation schedule.

What will this person do

• Manage and maintain global data center system s hardware and operating system configurations.
• Perform patching and vulnerability remediation to meet compliance standards.
• Manage and maintain core system applications: messaging, virtualization, business continuity, and data protection.
• Provide problem resolution and act as a subject matter expert to the business. (Daily, 24 7)
• Provide team feedback and drive improvements with current tools and processes.
• Review shift reports to ensure all break/fix issues are resolved in a timely manner or properly escalated to the appropriate group.
• Communicate proper expectations for scope and deadlines to internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform hands-on analysis of the production systems, fault resolution, capacity planning and root cause analysis for critical issues.
• Analyze and resolve performance issues, capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data.
• Maintain operation, configuration, or other procedures and documentation.
• Participate in on-call rotation supporting systems after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Manage and escalate cases to vendors for problem resolution.
• Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
• Automate processes to operate production systems.
• Act and work both independently and in a team environment.

• Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Technology or equivalent.
• 3 5 years of Systems Administration experience preferred in the following areas:
  1. Managing virtual server systems in an enterprise environment
  2. Developing and Managing automation tools in an enterprise environment
  3. Compute technologies.
  4. Storage technologies.
• Experience with MS SCCM or other monitoring style packages.
• MSCE or other industry certifications
• Experience in managing & supporting scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructures in a hybrid (Azure Cloud + Data Center) environment.
• Proficient in MS PowerShell or similar scripting language
• Extensive background in hardware maintenance and datacenter operations.
• Proven capability to manage day to day activity in a ticketing system.
• Working knowledge of security principles related to infrastructure management.
• Experience with ITIL or other process frameworks.
• Ability to quickly understand new tool/process improvement and drive the implementation to further enhance service excellence.
• Implementation and management of Microsoft Windows/VMware/Hyper-V environments.
• Management of Azure components such as active directory, Office 365 etc.
• Implementation and migration of hypervisors (strong Hyper-V skills a plus)
• Good understanding of VMware & Azure platforms.
• Ability to handle multiple jobs at the same time.
• Ability to always pay attention to details.
• Ability to take proactive steps in managing problems.
• Must be very security conscious to avoid sensitive data falling into wrong hands.
• Ability to effectively handle stress, pressures, and challenges.
• Solid understanding of data center design and principles - hosting experience a plus.
• Ability to plan, scope and estimate work effort to produce high quality deliverables on time/on budget.
• Good understanding of Microsoft active directory principles.
• Ability to work with diverse teams (national and international) in a collaborative manner.
• Intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn new concepts quickly and efficiently.
• Highly solution focused; strong sense of urgency with a passion for 100% availability.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Duties are performed in a typical office environment while at a desk or computer table.
• Duties require the ability to use a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material, in a quiet and professional setting.
• Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends).
