Job Summary:
The General Manager - Human Resources (HR) will oversee the entire HR function for the manufacturing organization, ensuring alignment with operational goals. This role focuses on workforce planning, compliance with labor laws, employee engagement, talent acquisition for factory operations, and fostering a safe and productive work environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive HR experience in the manufacturing sector and demonstrate expertise in managing unionized and non-unionized workforces.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Management:
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with manufacturing operations and long-term business goals.
- Collaborate with plant and corporate leadership to address workforce challenges and enhance productivity.
- Benchmark HR practices in the manufacturing sector to ensure competitiveness.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning:
- Lead recruitment for technical and operational roles, ensuring a pipeline of skilled labor for manufacturing operations.
- Conduct workforce planning for shop floor, skilled trades, and managerial roles to meet production demands.
- Build partnerships with technical institutes and training centers to source and develop talent.
Employee Relations & Compliance:
- Manage labor relations, including handling grievances, disputes, and union negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, industrial safety standards, and other statutory requirements.
- Develop and maintain harmonious relationships with unions and worker committees.
Training & Development:
- Implement skills development programs tailored for shop floor workers, supervisors, and managers.
- Drive initiatives for cross-functional training and career advancement in manufacturing roles.
- Partner with operations leadership to enhance technical competencies and reduce skill gaps.
Performance Management & Productivity:
- Oversee performance management systems, linking KPIs to manufacturing objectives.
- Implement reward and recognition programs to boost shop floor morale and productivity.
- Monitor and analyze absenteeism, turnover, and production efficiency data to drive improvements.
Health, Safety & Welfare:
- Promote workplace safety by ensuring adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) teams to reduce accidents and hazards.
- Drive employee welfare programs to enhance job satisfaction and retention.
HR Operations & Technology:
- Leverage HR technology to streamline workforce management and payroll systems.
- Ensure accurate workforce analytics and reporting to aid decision-making.
- Manage HR budgets effectively, optimizing costs while ensuring operational efficiency.
Key Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree or MBA preferred).
- Certifications such as SHRM, SPHR, or certifications in industrial relations are an advantage.
Experience:
- Minimum 12 years of HR experience, with at least 10 years in a leadership role within the manufacturing sector.
- Proven experience managing labor relations, compliance, and HR in a factory environment.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, factory compliance, and industrial safety regulations.
- Expertise in handling unionized environments and managing workforce negotiations.
- Effective leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in workforce analytics, HR systems, and productivity metrics.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work across diverse teams and hierarchies.
