Job Title: General Manager - Human Resources
Location: Tiruppur - Corporate Office (with weekly visits to manufacturing units)
Industry: Large Manufacturing Conglomerate - Textiles
Position Summary:
The GM - HR will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategies across the organisation, encompassing the corporate office and three manufacturing units. This role involves managing diverse HR functions, including talent management, employee engagement and compliance. The candidate must be capable of managing factory operations, ensuring adherence to labor laws and legal requirements, while also focusing on organizational development, learning, and training initiatives at the corporate level. With HR teams in place at each location, the GM - HR will provide strategic oversight and drive consistent HR practices across all units.
Key Responsibilities:
Corporate HR Leadership:
- Lead HR strategy, planning, and execution for the corporate office and all manufacturing units.
- Oversee talent acquisition, retention, and leadership development programs for 165 employees, including senior management and departmental teams (marketing, purchase, logistics, finance, etc.).
- Design and implement employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive work environment.
- Drive organizational development initiatives, including L&D programs and cultural integration efforts.
- Manage HR budgets, workforce planning, and organizational development.
Factory HR Management:
- Ensure smooth HR operations at all manufacturing units, adhering to labor laws and statutory regulations.
- Unit 1: Manage HR for 2000 workers, including 1000 housed onsite with large-scale canteen facilities, and 75 managerial families residing within the campus.
- Unit 2: Oversee HR responsibilities for 400 workers, including residential facilities.
- Unit 3: Provide HR support for a fully automated 200,000 sq. ft. facility with 100 engineers and workers.
- Collaborate with factory HR teams to standardize practices and ensure compliance with labor and legal requirements.
Employee Relations & Compliance:
- Liaise with legal teams to address labor law compliance and statutory obligations.
- Handle grievance resolution, disciplinary actions, and labor-related matters effectively.
- Maintain harmonious relationships with worker unions and foster a collaborative environment.
HR Systems and Process Improvements:
- Drive automation and digitization of HR processes across all locations to improve efficiency.
- Implement HR systems for data-driven decision-making and enhanced operational control.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to track HR performance and align with business goals.
Training & Development:
- Identify training needs and design programs to up-skill employees across corporate and manufacturing units.
- Lead initiatives for technical and leadership development for engineers, workers, and management.
Cultural Integration:
- Establish and maintain a unified organizational culture across corporate and factory teams.
- Foster collaboration and engagement through regular communication and HR-driven initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 15-20 years of HR leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing or textiles industries.
- Strong understanding of labor laws and statutory compliance.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strategic HR leadership with hands-on experience in multi-location workforce management.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws, compliance, and employee relations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage residential workforce facilities, including housing and welfare.
- Proficiency in HR systems, automation, and data analysis for decision-making.
