Job Description

Role & responsibilities


1. Project Planning and Coordination

  • Project Planning: Assist in the planning and scheduling of construction activities to ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Coordinate with Stakeholders: Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to ensure the project is progressing according to the plans and specifications.
  • Resource Allocation: Ensure that necessary resources such as labor, equipment, and materials are available on-site to maintain a smooth workflow.

2. Site Supervision and Monitoring

  • Supervise Construction Activities: Monitor day-to-day construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, safety standards, and quality specifications.
  • Ensure Compliance with Drawings and Specifications: Verify that the construction work aligns with the provided drawings, plans, and specifications. Address any discrepancies or issues that arise.
  • Quality Control: Oversee the quality of construction work to ensure it meets industry standards and project requirements. Ensure that materials are used correctly and that the construction work is done to specification.

3. Health and Safety Compliance

  • Safety Management: Ensure that safety protocols and procedures are followed by all workers and contractors on the site. This includes enforcing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Conduct Site Inspections: Perform routine site inspections to identify and rectify potential safety hazards or areas of concern.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Ensure compliance with local, state, and national safety regulations, including OSHA guidelines and other construction-related laws.

4. Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting

  • Address Site Issues: Identify and resolve issues related to construction activities, such as delays, quality control problems, material shortages, or logistical issues.
  • Adapt to Changes: Adapt and implement changes in the construction process or materials as necessary to meet the projects needs. This may involve troubleshooting technical or design challenges.
  • Collaborate with Engineers: Work with design engineers and other technical experts to solve any engineering-related issues that may arise during construction.

5. Budget and Resource Management

  • Manage Project Budget: Monitor construction costs and ensure the project stays within the allocated budget. Report any budget discrepancies or overruns to the project manager.
  • Material Management: Oversee the procurement and proper utilization of materials, ensuring there are no shortages and that the materials are in line with project specifications.
  • Optimize Resource Use: Efficiently manage labor, machinery, and materials to maximize productivity while minimizing waste or unnecessary costs.

6. Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare Reports: Document daily progress on-site, including work completed, issues encountered, and safety or quality concerns. Submit regular reports to senior engineers, project managers, or clients.
  • Track Milestones: Monitor the project timeline to ensure that milestones and deadlines are met. Document and report any delays or setbacks.
  • Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of all site activities, including material usage, labor hours, safety inspections, and change orders.

7. Communication and Liaison

  • Communication with Contractors and Subcontractors: Act as the main point of contact for contractors and subcontractors, providing instructions, clarifications, and ensuring coordination between different parties.
  • Liaise with Clients: Communicate with clients to provide updates on progress and address any concerns they may have regarding the project.
  • Coordinate with Authorities: Ensure the construction site complies with regulatory bodies and local authorities. This includes ensuring the necessary permits are in place and handling inspections by local government agencies.

8. Material and Equipment Management

  • Ensure Availability of Materials: Ensure that the correct materials are available on-site when needed. Coordinate with procurement teams or suppliers to prevent delays due to material shortages.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of machinery and equipment on-site. Coordinate with the equipment suppliers to arrange for servicing or repairs as necessary.

9. Subcontractor Supervision

  • Supervise Subcontractors: Manage and supervise subcontractors working on-site to ensure their work aligns with the project schedule, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure Proper Work Execution: Ensure that subcontractors adhere to the construction plans and specifications, including the timely completion of tasks.

10. Environmental and Sustainability Considerations

  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure that the construction site adheres to environmental guidelines and regulations. This includes managing waste disposal, reducing environmental impact, and protecting surrounding ecosystems.
  • Promote Sustainability: Implement sustainable construction practices by minimizing resource waste, using eco-friendly materials, and adopting energy-efficient methods whenever possible.

11. Final Inspection and Handover

  • Inspect Completed Work: Perform final inspections of the construction site to ensure all work has been completed as per specifications, with no defects or issues.
  • Prepare for Handover: Assist in the preparation of the final handover of the project to the client, ensuring that all documentation, inspections, and approvals are in place.
  • Post-Construction Activities: Oversee post-construction activities such as site cleanup, warranty follow-ups, and the resolution of any issues that arise after the project is completed.
