Safety Engineer

Requirements

• Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Other.
• Certifications: ADIS or PDIS From Recognized State Board.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Safety Field.
• Strong communication and leadership skills to train and influence teams effectively.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as OSHA, ISO 45001, and local labor laws.
• Ability to travel and work on-site across multiple locations.

Role & responsibilities

1. Risk Assessment and Hazard Analysis

• Conduct regular hazard analysis, including methods like HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), and fault tree analysis, to identify potential hazards in processes.
• Perform risk assessments for new and existing processes and recommend measures to mitigate risks.
• Evaluate the impact of process changes on safety and ensure that the changes are assessed for potential hazards.

2. Safety Management Systems

• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management systems in line with industry standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, ISO 45001).
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety standards, including maintaining safety documentation such as safety procedures, manuals, and work instructions.
• Review and update safety procedures periodically.

3. Design and Safety Review

• Collaborate with process engineers during the design phase to ensure safety is integrated into the design (e.g., selection of materials, equipment, and controls).
• Perform safety reviews of new processes, equipment, and modifications to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Ensure that appropriate safety features like pressure relief valves, fire suppression systems, and emergency shutdown systems are properly designed and implemented.

4. Safety Training and Awareness

• Develop and deliver training programs to raise safety awareness among employees and contractors.
• Conduct safety drills and exercises (e.g., emergency response drills, fire drills) to ensure workers are familiar with emergency procedures and systems.
• Stay up-to-date on emerging safety trends and technologies to continuously improve safety practices.

5. Incident Investigation and Reporting

• Lead or participate in incident investigations (e.g., near-misses, accidents) to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Document and report incidents, ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
• Analyze incident data to identify trends and recommend improvements.

6. Compliance and Audits

• Ensure the organization is in compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to process safety.
• Lead or support internal and external audits of safety programs and systems.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and ensure the company remains compliant.

7. Safety Equipment and Systems

• Oversee the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment, such as gas detectors, fire suppression systems, and emergency response equipment.
• Ensure that safety systems are operational and regularly tested, including alarms, emergency shutdown systems, and safety interlocks.

8. Emergency Response Planning

• Develop, review, and update emergency response plans for potential process-related incidents.
• Coordinate with emergency services, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure effective emergency preparedness.

9. Process Safety Metrics and Reporting

• Establish and track key process safety performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor safety performance.
• Prepare safety reports for management, summarizing incidents, risk assessments, and corrective actions.

10. Continuous Improvement

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety processes and procedures.
• Evaluate process safety data and trends to identify opportunities for enhancing safety and reducing risk.

11. Collaboration and Coordination

• Work closely with other departments, including operations, maintenance, engineering, and management, to promote a culture of safety.
• Support safety committees and act as a liaison between different teams to improve safety awareness and practices.
