2 Key Accountabilities

Manage Block Fabrication and Assembly Operations

• Oversee the block fabrication/assembly process, ensuring alignment with project schedules and quality requirements.
• Develop and implement work schedules for block fabrication tasks, coordinating resources to ensure timely completion of each stage.
• Monitor daily production activities, addressing issues promptly to minimize delays and maintain consistent workflow.

Coordinate with Cross-Functional Teams

• Work closely with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings and specifications, ensuring all fabrication activities meet design requirements.
• Collaborate with project management to align fabrication timelines with overall project schedules, adjusting as needed to stay on track.
• Coordinate with other production departments within BCS to facilitate seamless transitions between fabrication, outfitting (mechanical and electrical), and surface treatment (blasting and painting) stages.

Ensure Quality Control & Compliance

• Implement and enforce quality control standards throughout the block fabrication process, conducting regular inspections to verify compliance with specifications.
• Collaborate with the quality control team to address any deviations, implementing corrective actions to maintain high standards.
• Document quality checks and maintain accurate records for all fabrication activities to support transparency and accountability.

Optimize Resource Utilization & Cost Efficiency

• Manage resource allocation for block fabrication, optimizing labor, materials, and equipment to meet production targets within budget constraints.
• Track material usage and inventory levels, coordinating with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of materials.
• Identify and implement cost-saving measures within the block fabrication process, balancing quality with efficiency.

Promote Safety & Compliance with Regulations

• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations across all block fabrication activities.
• Conduct regular safety assessments and implement protocols to mitigate risks associated with material handling, equipment usage, and production processes.
• Promote a safety-first culture within the team, conducting training on safe work practices and emergency procedures.

Drive Process Improvement & Innovation

• Identify areas for process improvement within block fabrication, implementing best practices to enhance productivity and quality.
• Leverage digital tools and fabrication management software to streamline operations, improve tracking, and maintain accurate records.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to suggest innovations that optimize block fabrication efficiency.

Prepare Reports & Maintain Documentation

• Maintain detailed records of all block fabrication activities, including production metrics, quality inspections, and compliance documentation.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on fabrication progress, resource utilization, and quality metrics for review by the Head of Hull/Steel Fabrication.
• Ensure timely submission of management reports, adhering to internal standards and supporting operational transparency.

3 Interactions and Working Relationships

Internal:

• Head of Hull/Steel Fabrication: Provide regular updates on block fabrication progress, resource needs, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Head Block Construction Site (BCS): Communicate major milestones, project challenges, and resource requirements to align with broader BCS objectives.
• Engineering Team: Collaborate to understand technical specifications and resolve design issues impacting fabrication.
• Project Management Team: Work closely to ensure fabrication schedules align with project timelines, adjusting as necessary to meet deadlines.
• Other Production Departments (e.g., Outfitting, Blasting & Painting): Coordinate transitions from fabrication to subsequent stages, ensuring readiness for mechanical/electrical outfitting and surface treatment.
• Quality and Safety Teams: Work closely with quality and safety personnel on-site to ensure compliance with defined quality and safety standards.

External:

• Owner Representative: Interact with Owner Representatives/Superintendents as and when required on production-related aspects.
• Surveyors/Classification Society Representatives: Interact with Surveyors/Classification Society Representatives as and when required on production-related aspects.

As per DOA policy.

5 – Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Additional certifications in Welding, Fabrication, Dimension Control, and Project Management.
• Strong understanding of AWS D1.1 and IACS Rules is advantageous.

Preferred Experience:

• 7+ years of experience in steel or hull fabrication within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or a similar industry.
• At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Proven experience managing fabrication and assembly processes, coordinating cross-functional teams, and adhering to strict quality standards.

Functional and Behavioral Competency:

• Fabrication & Assembly Expertise: Strong understanding of block fabrication processes, including welding, assembly, and quality standards in shipbuilding.
• Project Coordination: Proficiency in managing schedules, coordinating with engineering and production teams, and aligning fabrication activities with project timelines.
• Quality Assurance & Compliance: Knowledge of quality control standards, inspection procedures, and compliance requirements in hull fabrication.
• Safety & Risk Management: Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to fabrication processes and a commitment to promoting a safe work environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in fabrication management software, ERP systems, and MS Office for tracking, reporting, and data analysis.
• Leadership & Team Management: Effective leadership skills for guiding fabrication teams, setting clear expectations, and maintaining productivity and morale.
