Job Title: In-charge TTS, Panel Production


Location: Pipavav (Gujarat)


Position Grade: Assistant Manager (AM)/ Deputy Manager (DM)


Job Summary and Purpose:

The InCharge of TTS/Panel Production is responsible for managing the panel production stage within the hull fabrication process at the Block Construction Site (BCS) of the shipyard. Reporting directly to the Head of Hull/Steel Fabrication, this role ensures the timely and quality-focused completion of panel production, preparing panels for subsequent block fabrication and outfitting stages. The InCharge TTS/Panel Production works closely with engineering, project management, and other production teams to meet project timelines, quality standards, and operational goals.

This role is essential for driving efficiency and quality in panel production, ensuring panels are fabricated to exact specifications and ready for the block assembly stage. By managing resources, coordinating cross-functional teams, and adhering to quality and safety standards, the InCharge TTS/Panel Production supports the shipyards project delivery objectives and operational efficiency. 


Accountabilities:


Oversee Panel Production Operations:

  • Manage the TTS/Panel Production process, ensuring alignment with project schedules and quality specifications.
  • Develop and implement work plans for panel production, coordinating labor and resources to meet production targets on time.
  • Monitor daily production activities, troubleshooting issues as they arise to prevent delays and maintain efficient workflow.

Coordinate with Cross-Functional Teams:

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret technical drawings and specifications, ensuring all production activities meet design requirements.
  • Work with project management to align panel production schedules with overall project timelines, adjusting plans as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Coordinate with other production departments within BCS to facilitate smooth transitions from panel production to block fabrication and subsequent outfitting and painting stages.

Ensure Quality Control & Compliance:

  • Implement quality control measures throughout the panel production process, conducting inspections to verify compliance with technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to identify and resolve any non-compliance or defects in panel fabrication.
  • Maintain documentation of quality checks, ensuring transparent record-keeping and adherence to quality standards.

Optimize Resource Utilization & Cost Efficiency:

  • Manage resources efficiently, including labor, materials, and equipment, to maximize productivity and meet budget targets.
  • Monitor material usage and coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of raw materials, reducing downtime.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures within the panel production process, balancing quality with efficiency.

Promote Safety & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations within the panel production area, ensuring safe working conditions for all team members.
  • Conduct regular safety assessments and implement protocols to mitigate risks associated with material handling, equipment usage, and production processes.
  • Foster a safety-conscious culture within the team, conducting regular training on safe practices and emergency procedures.

Drive Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in panel production, implementing best practices to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Leverage digital tools and production management software to optimize panel production operations, improve tracking, and maintain accurate records.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, engaging team members in identifying innovations that streamline production and reduce waste.

Prepare Reports & Maintain Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of all panel production activities, including production metrics, quality inspections, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on production progress, resource utilization, and quality metrics to the Head of Hull/Steel Fabrication.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of management reports, adhering to internal standards and supporting transparency in operations.

Internal: 

  • Head of Hull/Steel Fabrication: Report on panel production progress, resource needs, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Head Block Construction Site (BCS): Communicate major milestones, project challenges, and resource requirements to align with broader BCS objectives.
  • Engineering Team: Collaborate to ensure design specifications are met and resolve any technical issues impacting panel production.
  • Project Management Team: Coordinate closely to align panel production schedules with overall project timelines, adjusting plans as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Other Production Departments (e.g., Block Fabrication, Outfitting, Blasting & Painting): Ensure readiness for transition from panel production to block fabrication and subsequent stages.
  • Quality and Safety Teams: Work closely with quality and safety personnel at site to ensure compliance of defined quality and safety standards.

External:

  • Owner representative: Interact with Owner Representatives/Superintendents as and when required on production related aspects.
  • Surveyors/Classification Society Representatives: Interact with Surveyors/Classification Society Representatives as and when required on production related aspects.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in Welding, Fabrication, Automated Production Management and strong understanding of AWS D1.1 and IACS Rules are advantageous.

  • 7+ years of experience in steel or hull fabrication within shipbuilding, heavy engineering, or a similar industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven experience managing production processes, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Functional and Behavioural Competency:

  • Panel Production & Fabrication Expertise: Strong understanding of panel production processes, including welding, assembly, and quality standards in shipbuilding.
  • Project Coordination: Proficiency in managing schedules, coordinating with engineering and production teams, and aligning production activities with project timelines.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Knowledge of quality control standards, inspection procedures, and compliance requirements in panel production.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to production processes and commitment to promoting a safe work environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in production management software, ERP systems, and MS Office for tracking, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Effective leadership skills for guiding production teams, setting clear expectations, and maintaining productivity and morale.
