Deputy Manager- Electrical Forward Design

Accountabilities

a. Electrical Drawing Preparation:

• Prepare conceptual/preliminary drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics for electrical components based on engineer or designer specifications.
• Create layouts for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, control systems, and auxiliary systems, using CAD software.
• Update drawings as needed to reflect design changes and revisions based on feedback from engineers or project requirements.

b. Documentation and Design Support:

• Maintain a well-organized database of all drawings, including revision histories, to ensure easy access and traceability.
• Assist in the preparation of conceptual design and other supporting documents for electrical components based on drawings.
• Coordinate with the design team to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation, supporting commercial, production, and quality control processes.

c. Compliance with Standards and Regulations:

• Ensure all drawings adhere to industry standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, Lloyds Register) and regulatory codes for shipbuilding.
• Perform self-checks on drawings to verify accuracy and compliance with design specifications and structural requirements.
• Update drawings and designs as necessary to meet regulatory and safety standards and ensure consistency with project specifications.

d. Stakeholder Coordination:

• Collaborate with production teams to clarify technical details and provide support for the installation and assembly of electrical systems.
• Assist quality assurance teams by ensuring drawings reflect design intent and help identify potential installation or operational issues.
• Coordinate with commercial teams to facilitate preparation of accurate preliminary cost estimates.

Interactions and Working Relationships

Internal:

• Head of Forward Engineering: Direct reporting line, receiving guidance on design requirements, project timelines, and drawing standards.
• Other Design team members: Coordinate with other design team members (forward and detailed) to ensure consistency and integration across design disciplines.
• Production Team: Collaborate to interpret drawings for fabrication and installation, ensuring alignment with the design intent and addressing any on-site clarifications.
• Commercial Team: Coordinate with estimation teams to drive accurate preliminary cost estimates for bidding phase.

External:

• Suppliers and Vendors: Occasionally liaise with vendors to ensure that components conform to specifications or address any technical questions regarding materials.
• Third-Party Inspectors and Classification Societies: Assist in review sessions, providing technical clarity for regulatory inspections and ensuring that drawings meet compliance requirements.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Certification in computer-aided design (CAD) software, specifically in 2D and 3D modeling (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

Preferred Experience:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an electrical draughtsman, preferably in the shipbuilding, marine, or heavy engineering industry.
• Familiarity with electrical design drawings for shipbuilding, ship repair, or marine applications is preferred.

Functional Competency:

• Strong technical knowledge in electrical drafting, including circuit diagrams, wiring layouts, and schematic design.
• Proficient in CAD software for design, such as AutoCAD, or other relevant tools.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to create accurate and clear technical drawings.
• Basic knowledge of industry standards and regulations relevant to electrical design in the marine industry (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
• Effective communication skills to work within a team and interpret design requirements accurately.
