What Youll Do

Avalara is a global company with dev teams across multiple locations. Despite our size, we maintain a startup culture focused on building great software and having the maximum growth and having fun while doing it. You will report to Director, Technical Writing.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

• You will create high-quality technical documentation for Avalara APIs, SDKs, and developer tools, including reference guides, tutorials, and FAQs.
• You will collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other team members to understand API functionality and use cases.
• You will translate complex technical concepts into clear, and user-friendly documentation that meets the needs of developers.
• You will maintain the consistency, accuracy, and clarity of all documentation following Avalaras branding and standards.
• You will gather feedback from developers and users to improve the usability of the documentation.
• You will work with the Design & Development teams to create visual aids, code samples, and other supporting materials.
• You will ensure updates to documentation to reflect changes in APIs or new product features.
• You will contribute to the developer experience by identifying and addressing gaps in resources.

• Experience writing API documentation, with familiarity in REST, JSON, and similar technologies.
• Proficiency in using documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI, Markdown, and Git.
• 3+ years of experience with structured documentation tools such as DITA.
• Familiarity with content optimization tools like Acrolinx.
