Purpose of the role:

The National Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire logistics operation, ensuring the efficient movement of products while maintaining the highest standards of service, compliance, and safety. This role focuses on key logistics metrics, such as On-Time In-Full (OTIF), Line Item Fill Rate (LIFR), warehouse identification, primary and secondary transportation, Mid -mile and last-mile delivery. The National Logistics Manager will drive strategic initiatives to optimize the logistics process, ensuring the timely and safe delivery of medical devices to customers, distributors, and healthcare facilities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Logistics Strategy & Planning:
    • Develop and implement national logistics strategies for the movement of medical devices from manufacturing facilities to end-users, including customers, healthcare providers, and distributors.
    • Collaborate with internal teams (sales, supply chain, quality, regulatory) to align logistics with business objectives, product demand, and regulatory requirements.
  2. Key Metrics Management:
    • On-Time In-Full (OTIF): Monitor and optimize the OTIF metric, ensuring that products are delivered to customers on time and in full as per agreed service levels.
    • Line Item Fill Rate (LIFR): Track and optimize LIFR by identifying risks, implementing mitigation strategies, and investigating incidents to ensure the safe delivery of medical devices.
    • Oversee the timely resolution of any discrepancies or delays in product delivery, ensuring that corrective actions are taken to prevent future issues.
  3. Warehouse Identification & Management:
    • Oversee the selection, management, and performance of warehouses for storage, inventory management, and order fulfillment of medical devices.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO) and maintain optimal conditions for product storage, including temperature-sensitive items.
    • Optimize warehouse space, processes, and workforce management to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  4. Transportation Management (Primary & Secondary):
    • Manage both primary (manufacturer to warehouse) and secondary (warehouse to customers or distributors) transportation networks.
    • Select and manage carriers and transportation partners, ensuring efficient routes, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with all regulations.
    • Negotiate contracts with transportation providers and drive cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service levels.
    • Continuously monitor and improve transportation efficiency, ensuring that shipments are delivered within defined timelines and without damage.
  5. Last-Mile Delivery:
    • Oversee last-mile delivery operations, ensuring the final delivery of medical devices to customers or healthcare facilities is executed efficiently, accurately, and within customer expectations.
    • Collaborate with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to enhance delivery speed and customer satisfaction.
    • Implement solutions to optimize last-mile delivery, considering factors such as route planning, delivery time windows, and tracking visibility.
  6. Compliance & Risk Management:
    • Ensure logistics operations comply with regulatory requirements, including medical device regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental laws.
    • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address potential disruptions, product recalls, or other logistical challenges in the medical device industry.
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of logistics operations for audit and compliance purposes.
  7. Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
    • Analyze logistics performance data, identify trends, and create reports on key metrics (OTIF, LIFR, etc.) for senior management review.
    • Identify areas for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency gains across the supply chain.
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating Lean or Six Sigma principles to optimize logistics operations.
  8. Team Management & Collaboration:
    • Lead and manage the logistics team, providing direction, coaching, and performance management.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability, ensuring alignment with company goals and performance expectations.
