Key skills for the job
The incumbent will be responsible for providing customized, best-in-class capital machinery to customers by understanding their specific requirements and delivering effective and efficient design solutions. They will add value to the business by developing upstream and downstream equipment and implementing VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and effectively translate them into efficient design specifications.
- Interact with technical teams, including development and product teams, to ensure design feasibility.
- Initiate research and design for new products, ensuring the organization is future-ready.
- Develop and design detailed engineering activities while ensuring quality design and on-time delivery.
- Plan the engineering function and oversee the efficient execution of projects, providing supervision and guidance to other teams.
- Focus on goal achievement and the management of issues between the business and on-time delivery.
- Provide value-added expertise in engineering and project leadership. Thoroughness in design calculations is essential, as project requirements are often unique.
- Develop competitive differentiation by ensuring the team has best-in-class technical talent to innovate, win business, and solve challenging problems.
- Provide oversight for important research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts.
- Develop a results-oriented engineering team to service the Tactical Solutions business and its customers.
- Lead and direct architectures that are sufficiently flexible and adaptable to meet emerging market requirements.
- Establish staff performance expectations and provide regular feedback through both informal and scheduled reviews.
- Coach, resolve conflicts, and take corrective action as necessary to address performance-related issues.
- Provide input and lead the improvement of internal company procedures and processes.
- Enforce partner choices for different development capabilities to ensure flexibility and access to the right talent for activities required by customers.
- Represent the engineering team in product development requirements and in the creation of schedules and budget
Qualification & Experience:
- A Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Production Engineering is required.
- A Master's in Engineering is preferred, along with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience, of which at least 10 years should be in a Design Engineering role with team leadership experience.
- The ideal candidate will have exposure to process design, customized machinery, or special-purpose machinery design in areas such as machine building, capital equipment, packaging, CNC machine tools, or heavy fabrication.
- Experience in manufacturing processes such as rolling, casting, precision machining of components, fabrication, or gearboxes is preferred.
