Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: The written test was composed of 2 sections. 1st section had 48 multiple choice questions which can have more
than 1 correct answer for each question. The other section had 4 subjective questions. Multiple choice questions
were asked from GSM (its architecture, functions of BTS, BSC, MSC, VLR,HLR,its interfaces and protocols, IMSI,ISDN(full form)), Computer Networks (layers of OSI model), ATM, CDMA basics , Bluetooth basics (range of
operation, etc), FDM, TDM. In the subjective questions 1st ques: Difference between hubs ,switches and routers?
2nd ques: Simple puzzle. 3rd ques: what are the various interface to ISDN. Explain them. 4th ques: cannot recollect since the result was announced almost 38 days after interview. But, if whole technical paper is concerned, prepare GSM entirely and basics of computer networks and other topics mentioned above, you can clear the test.
Duration: 60 minutes

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: We were given a choice to choose 1 topic out of the 3 topics mentioned by them and we choose the above mentioned topic.I supported my fellow mates and added my own points accordingly. One should never obstruct while other is giving his view. Thus ,all the students present over there gave their view in the best possible way,and at the end each one of us provided a conclusion to our entire discussion. I think this methodology should always be followed in GD as was suggested to me by many of my friends.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: First, he asked me about my Industrial Training which was on GSM. He asked me to explain the architecture with
diagram., then its interfaces and protocols, terms such as (Frequency hopping, Handover, Multipath equalization,
Power control), Functions of MSC. Then, he asked me about my final year project (briefly) and its application . After
that, he asked my favourite subjects. I told him Communication System, Microwave Engineering. Then , he asked
me basic questions on various analog and digital modulation schemes, applications of Digital Communication and
microwave engineering, relation between between wavelength and beamwidth. There were 3 panel members (2 tech, 1 HR).They were very supportive. I could not answer 3-4 technical questions properly but yet they tried to give hint and explain me the answers . I did not bluff them in Tech interviews at any point (whatever i was knowing i explained them fully, else said could not recollect). Overall,my entire interview was of about 25 minutes and it was an exciting experience and atlast the result went in my favour.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: They asked me to tell me about myself, family background, extra curricular activities, why should we hire you?,
strengths and weakness, What is your aim in life?, any problem if relocation is given in China. Thus, these are the
most basic questions which are asked in any HR interview and one must be prepared for it before-hand.

General Tips: Prepare GSM thoroughly (upto whatever depth possible) as it would be beneficial in both aptitude test and technical interview. If you are thorough with this topic, you are almost done with 60% of your preparation. After that, study the basics of your favourite subjects. Always try to match your strength with company requirements. And last but not the least, whenever you are applying for any company , try to visit its website once and get an idea of what currently it is working on, and 2-3 other points. If you have done some research about the company previously ,you can readily impress the interviewer. Hence, put in your best effort, don't think of the results.....just have confidence in yourself....and you will definitely succeed,so, friends BEST OF LUCK for your placements.
