Q. What is STP in switching?
Ans.

STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) in switching is a network protocol that ensures a loop-free topology for Ethernet networks.

  • STP prevents loops in Ethernet networks by blocking redundant paths

  • It selects a root bridge to be the central point of the network

  • STP calculates the shortest path to the root bridge for each switch port

  • If a link fails, STP reconverges to find a new path without loops
