Interview Preparation Tips

Round: aptitude test
Experience: The aptitude test consisted of verbal, analytical and numerical questions with sufficient time to answer the questions.

Round: Technical test
Experience: The technical test contained questions from almost all the compulsory courses that you may have studied over the past four-five years, mostly conceptual though but there were some numerical questions as well.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: There was a group discussion on the topic ‘Is quality a myth in India? ‘ to eliminate a few students and the rest were selected for the final interviews.

Round: technical interview
Experience: Interview lasted for about 25-30 minutes. They started by asking about my interests and backgrounds and then came directly into questions related to my areas of interests. They asked questions about torque transmission through a shaft, I-beams, stress-strain and buckling and a little background about my thesis followed by one basic question related to it. The final 10-12 minutes were spent in discussing the questions that I had asked the interviewers and it also helped in lightening the mood, so I would suggest be ready to ask the interviewer a few questions to show that you are genuinely interested
During the interview questions were asked mostly from my areas of interests and a little about my thesis and internships. But it is important to know one or two courses very thoroughly.

General Tips: Do’s and Don’ts :
● Do not take GD’s lightly, I ignored it till the very last moment and did my first GD on the night before the actual GD. It is a shortlisting criteria for many mechanical engineering core companies and you wouldn’t want to lose out there.
● Read about your thesis and internships properly. Many of your interviews would revolve around that only.
● Select one or two major courses and prepare them thoroughly, you may be asked about the courses that you liked at IITK followed by some questions related to it.
● Practice explaining your projects and HR questions with someone.
● Get to know a little about the company before the interview. You may drop that information somewhere during the interview to show your interest. Also be ready to ask a question at the end.
● Don’t copy answers to HR questions from the internet, write your own and try to remember the key points.
● Don’t lose heart if you are not shortlisted or not selected. There are a lot of other options.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: There was no negative marking in test(but our seniors got the paper with negative marking so nothing can be predicted for future) but there was time limit so u have to maintain ur speed, once u move forward for next question u can not go back to previous question so u have to be careful which question u have to skip.questions were not very easy nor they were tough, mathematics questions were from 11 12 class not from the B.Tech course.
Tips: for aptitude questions plz go through all types of patterns(work, wages, profit loss, capital interest, principal interest, average.speed, distance, time ), u can get them in MADE EASY aptitude book, for technical go through all the subjects(machines, power system, analog, digital, instrumentation, networks, control system)because there was atleast one question from each subject although they were easy ,if u r preparing for GATE u just need remember the basic ,the can be solved on finger tips
Duration: 2 HR minutes
Total Questions: 120

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: topic was very easy so everyone was ready with the points, boys were speaking with dominating voice,u have to be very careful to get a chance to speak
Tips: search common GD topics on net and write ur own points for them, go through the GD on net so u can get an idea how to start the topic or else join any of the coaching for GD,dont speak much but when u speak be confident and speak simple language don't use complicated words
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Other Interview
Experience: they asked me to speak about myself for 5 min they were very cool, they were continuously looking in my CV and questioning about what I have written in it(about my sport, schooling, brother,my family, childhood)for technical they asked me about sensors and as an ee student which instrument I will be using for measuring fuel level in the automobiles, they were very much impressed by my written test (as they said to me,so try to do it well)  they were very much cool and smiling all the time, with their body language I was able to make it out that they will select me
Tips: if u r a girl from non mechanical branch then ur chances of getting selected is quite more as compared with the boys of non mechanical branch(provided u also give them answer for their question confidently with good body language   ) , for boys if u want to clear ur interview prepare thoroughly with ur technical subjects

General Tips: give the written test of consultancy companies so u can have an idea of aptitude questions,if u clear the test of those companies and get selected for GD give 100% in the GD,if u get selected for next round interview and u dont want to join the company say no to them in the interview, but plz if u dont want to join a company just dont leave it because u want to wait for ur dream company ,the above trick will help u to get experience and gain confidence but be careful
Skill Tips: go through the campus placement papers on net
Skills: alertness, speed, acuracy

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Its a simple test to check your people skills, your personality and whether you are capable to handle difficult situations
Tips: Its very simple, no need to worry abt it. Everyone clears this one.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The GD took place on 12th feb and so the topic was very recent. Everybody had  abundant data and thus plenty of points to make. It was a well structured GD, 10 minutes to discuss and 5 minutes to individually conclude the topic. I made my first point pretty late which was a wrong thing to do as I was asked about this in my interview. Later on I was successful to put 3-4 distinct points and as I was 8th amongst 10 ppl I could structure my conclusion well.
Tips: 1. Please read about the recent topics in newspaper.2.Numbers aren't important they don't make much difference. 3. If you are  applying for marketing/sales job be presentable, improve your diction and grammar. 4.Make distinct points.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HRs were very calm and poised, they gave me enough time to frame my answers. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Tips: Be yourself and show that you need this job. Show that you come from a family which is supportive and that you are flexible when it comes to location.
