  • Q1. Questions on my past experiences, my background and how my past experiences have shaped me up for the job.
  • Ans. The typical 45 seconds intro and another 2-3 mins on my current job profile. If you are nervous, try to keep your intro open-ended resulting in further questioning in this aspect and you answering them which should help you in calming down. (You don't want to fumble afterwards!)

  • Q2. A few other technical questions on the types of data handled and what software/tools have I used. Answered accordingly.
  • Q3. Finally a 20 mins task related to research.

Coming to the interview, I had 2 rounds of interview. First with the technical team and then with the manager.

Technical round was pretty straight forward, was asked a few questions on my background and then given a research task to complete while sharing my screen as per the job description. It lasted for around 1 hr.

Managerial round was pretty informal. We chatted for about 1 - 1.5 hrs on the energy market and how it would develop in the future. We were also discussing on how the geopolitics of the oil market.

After that, within 2 days I got a confirmation for the selection and another 3 days down the line I had a conversation with the HR regarding salary. We agreed on a number and within 7 days I had my offer.

Experience: 15 people were short listed from the entire lot.
Tips: High CGPA or course in R programming will be helpful in getting shortlisted.

Round: Telephonic interview
Experience: general HR questions like describe yourself was asked. I was questioned on my tennis knowledge (extra curricular) and detailed description of intern too.
Tips: Be thorough with your resume from start to end and you should be able to explain what you did in interview.

Round: Test
Experience: Difficult questions related to data interpretation mixed with probability were asked to solve within 7 minutes. One guess-estimate question and one case study type problem were asked to be solved within 23 minutes.
Tips: calculations should be done fast and assumptions properly written.

Experience: Didn't read any material saw resumes of my friends who pass out last year to see how to organize my points. Prepare my resume and refine it with the help of my friends several times

Experience: Saw common HR questions from the websites and prepare answers for that .worked in groups in which one person acted as an interviewer.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: For the case studies, I referred many e-books available to learn the basic procedure to solve case studies. Sample case studies are also available on sites of these companies (Mckinsey.com, BCG.com or Bain.com)

Round: Puzzle Interview
Experience: Some companies asked puzzles. Common puzzles can be found on internet (pagalguy.com, brainvista.com , or orkut)
