Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The resume I had prepared was in accordance with the guidelines of the placement Cell. I made a thorough study of those subjects which I had studied as well as which were in my areas of interest. For extra-curricular activities I had a well prepared answer with instances.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This was held prior to the visit of the company to the campus. Through the telephonic interview they wanted to know what all we knew about the company. What Rio Tinto really does and the areas of operation were the main points of discussion.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: It was a combination of technical as well as HR interview. They ask me simple HR questions. They also asked me technical question from Fluid Mechanics. They asked me questions on pumps and cavitations. They also asked me a real time problem. It was somewhat like this:
During mining they use a fluid called xylene. The problem was that if we use xylene during summers then the pump works well but during winter the pump experiences some problem. They asked me to analyse the reason for non-functioning of pump. They wanted to know my approach towards the problem I started with the basic difference which was of temperature between summers and winters. From this I came to the concept of cavitation.
They also asked me to define what cavitation is and what is trimming of pumps.
The next round was completely an HR interview round. They asked me questions related to my extra-curricular activities. They were looking for the qualities that were required for their job. These were leadership, team spirit and also on communication skills. They were framing their questions based on whatever I was telling them.

Round: Stress Interview
Experience: The next round was a sort of stress interview. They asked me that there are 4 people standing outside, tell us why should we take you and not them. They also asked me that why did I think I was suited for the job when they believed that I was not capable enough for it. All the time they were noting down my answers. They were specially noting down the words I was using to describe myself.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: I had heard about the company through my seniors but attending Pre Placement Talk was very helpful in getting to know the company and its requirements. Have complete knowledge about the company by visiting its Wikipedia page or browse through its website.
