Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Well the questions in aptitude was pretty simple and had a lot of calculations. simple approach 2 solve a problem and sound technique will sail u through the test with absolute no difficulty. There were in all 35 questions and i solved around 32-33 questions.. An average student should not have any difficulty in clearing this round of selection. Quant had simple questions on time and distance, time and work, number of handshakes in a party , questions on divisibility and all. the DI was set was also pretty easy which consisted of only calculations nothing else.
Duration: 30 minutes

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The topic was Globalization boon or curse..a boon or curse for the developing countries. I started by saying as to what Globalization actually is and started giving examples as to how has its effect on the developing countries. Regarding India I said about the nuclear deal and its consequences. Being abreast with the latest happenings sailed me through GD. One must enter into a GD atleast 4-5 times to come under the eyes of the concerned panel. And must also allow other members to share their views.Good communication skills mixed with good subjectual knowledge makes one sail through this round as well. I entered into a GD 6 times and showed leadership skills by allowing other members of the group to tell their views. I compared both the good as well as the bad aspects of globalization and at last concluded that it depends on how to is used for the development of a developing country .
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: Technical Interview
Experience: The interview panel asked me about my favorite subject. As Vedanta is a mining major company, i told them my favorite subject to be extractive metallurgy as i had a course of 4 credits named UPEM(Unit Processes in Extractive Metallurgy) and corrosion. They asked me to name all the types of corrosion which i told them . Then they asked me the whole process of aluminium extraction.. (Aluminium , zinc and copper extraction must be studied before going into the interview of this company), I told them this also. that was how mine technical interview went through.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: In HR the 1st obvious question was to tell them about myself. Then they asked me about my hobbies, i told playing soccer as i play in my department soccer team. Then i told them that i listen to old hindi melodies.HR in total was simple they i think just tested as to whether the candidate can freely express himself or not. They also asked me in the last to ask any questions to them . They themselves told me that my take away home salary for the 1st 6 months shall be 23k per month. I asked about the growth opportunities then they told me that its purely performance oriented .

Skill Tips: As a metallurgist I shall say its the number company in mining sector and you must take this very seriously, but the seriousness should not affect your performance. A CORE company doesn't offer you better emoluments than Vedanta and you must brush through your AL, CU and zinc extraction in full detail. For GD just be aware on the latest happenings and please please open your mouth during GD if you want to clear this round , because once you clear this round and have revised things well i don't think that you shall not be able to make through this mining major company. Lastly i wish you all the best for this company. Cheers!!

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: On the basis of CGPA

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: I was extremely nervous as this was going to be my first interview as a fresher. Adding to that, their first question was ' who is your favourite basket ball player?' as my CV mentioned that I used to play basketball in school-life. I just didn't know whether I should blabber an arbitrary name or give the honest answer. After giving the latter I was asked how crude oil is seperated from water. I told them that if some time is allowed then crude oil and water will be separated in two layers. Now I dont know why it seemed to me that crude oil having asphalts, coke should have greater specific gravity than water and should appear at bottom. After giving the answer, from their expressions I knew that I had screwed this as well. Now they asked some more teasing questions like why I had joined IIChE, how many meeting I had attended and so on and I don't remember the rest as I was close to tears by then.
Tips: At the end, one of the panelists gently told me 'Please don't be so much nervous from next time'.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: They first asked me to tell me about myself. Then I was asked to briefly explain what I did in my internship at SAIL in summer'16.Then they asked a few technical questions on the project (Modelling of a bio refinery using Indian agrowastes for energy and environmental analysis) that I was doing in that semester under one of my professors. Then they asked me about my favourite subject to which I answered, "Heat Transfer". So they asked me some basic questions on heat exchangers and related graphs.
Then one of the HRs asked me to tell about my career objectives followed by a few other questions like my strength, why CAIRN, what I would have pursued if not engineering, which location would I prefer- Rajasthan(where there is main plant of CAIRN) or Gurgaon(where there is main office of CAIRN but no plant).
Then they asked me if I had any questions to ask to which I asked them a few internship related queries. And this way, the interview ended.
