I applied via Campus Placement and was interviewed before Aug 2021. There were 4 interview rounds.

Round 1 - Aptitude Test

In aptitude test there were 2 sections
1. Technical test which contains basic of mechanical discipline since this was College placement and in mechanical engineering there is no subject like piping engineering so there were no questions from piping engineering.
2. Aptitude test was different from other companies. In aptitude test we were asked to attempt as many as questions in stipulated time period for example tick on correct spelling, in this round we got 2 mins in which we have to attempt as many as questions as we can.

Round 2 - Technical

(2 Questions)

  • Q1. Stress strain curve, velocity and acceleration
  • Q2. Effect of alloying elements on steel
  • Ans.

Alloying elements can improve steel's strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, and other properties.

    • Alloying elements can change the crystal structure of steel, affecting its properties.

    • Chromium improves corrosion resistance and hardness, and is used in stainless steel.

    • Manganese improves strength and toughness.

    • Nickel improves toughness and corrosion resistance.

    • Carbon increases hardness and strength, but reduces ductil...

Round 3 - Technical

(3 Questions)

  • Q1. Project specific questions.
  • Q2. Elements of Iron carbide diagram.
  • Ans.

Iron carbide diagram shows the relationship between temperature, carbon content, and phases of iron and iron carbide.

    • Also known as the Fe-C diagram

    • Displays the transformation of iron and iron carbide at different temperatures and carbon concentrations

    • Consists of three regions: austenite, ferrite, and cementite

    • Used to determine the microstructure of steel and cast iron

    • Helps in predicting the properties of steel and cast

  • Q3. What is Compressible and incompressible fluids and example..
  • Ans.

Compressible fluids can be compressed while incompressible fluids cannot be compressed.

    • Compressible fluids have a variable density and volume, while incompressible fluids have a constant density and volume.

    • Examples of compressible fluids include gases like air and steam, while examples of incompressible fluids include liquids like water and oil.

    • Compressible fluids follow the gas laws, while incompressible fluids follow...

Related to piping and SOM

Round 2 - Technical

(2 Questions)

  • Q1. Properties of material
  • Ans.

Properties of material refer to characteristics such as strength, hardness, ductility, and conductivity.

    • Strength: ability to withstand applied stress without failure (e.g. tensile strength)

    • Hardness: resistance to deformation or scratching (e.g. Rockwell hardness)

    • Ductility: ability to deform without breaking (e.g. elongation at break)

    • Conductivity: ability to conduct heat or electricity (e.g. thermal conductivity)

  • Q2. 3rd angle 1st angle
Round 3 - Technical

(1 Question)

  • Q1. IC engine working
  • Ans.

IC engine works by converting chemical energy into mechanical energy through combustion of fuel inside the engine cylinders.

    • IC engine intake air and fuel mixture into the cylinder

    • Compression of the air-fuel mixture increases its temperature and pressure

    • Ignition of the compressed mixture by spark plug causes combustion

    • Expansion of the gases pushes the piston down, creating mechanical energy

  • Q2. What is 1 st law of thermodynamic
  • Ans.

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or converted.

    • Energy can be transferred between systems or converted from one form to another.

    • The total energy in a closed system remains constant.

    • Mathematically expressed as: ΔU = Q - W, where ΔU is the change in internal energy, Q is heat added to the system, and W is work done by the system.

Round 1 - Technical

(3 Questions)

  • Q1. What is header clearance?
  • Ans.

Header clearance refers to the space required for the installation and maintenance of piping headers.

    • Header clearance is the distance between the top of the header and the ceiling or any obstruction above it.

    • It is important to ensure sufficient clearance for proper installation, maintenance, and operation of the piping system.

    • Examples of obstructions that may require clearance include beams, ductwork, and other piping
