Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: ONGC being a PSU is hugely inclined towards GPA. This was a challenge for me since I was not endowed with an excellent GPA. However, I was selected according to my rank in my batch. In General category, I was ranked 6th with an overall GPA of 8.03. A figure of 8 and above does help, by the way.
N.B.- In General category, I was the last ranked student to get selected. Thanks to my technical background.

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: This was the major deciding factor apart from your GPA. ONGC strictly tested the technical knowledge of the students of Petroleum Engineering. Credit was given to the projects and internships undertaken.
The interview panel consisted of eminent personalities of the organisation from different departments of drilling, reservoir, production, HR etc, who have been working in the industry for an average of more than 25 years.
They also had a fixed set of questions, which I guess we're asked to every student who appeared for the interview.
Not only were technical skills tested, but also one's logical bent of mind.
What worked in favour of me was my sound technical knowledge, my choice of project and my research in bringing about innovations in different fields of the subject.
Post my interview, I was asked by one of the Directors to share my research material with him, which I realised was a positive feedback. Nevertheless, the next day I got notification? of my selection.
