Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Telephone conversation
Experience: After having completed my formal design education from NID, Ahmedabad and a Masters' degree from Nottingham Trent University, Globant India (formerly Clarice Technologies) was one of the places I had applied to for a job. I was still in the UK when I got a mail from the HR department that they would like to go ahead with my application and a call was setup with one of the Principal Designers. I was a bit jittery, well who is not, but the call turned out to be more of a discussion than an interview. I talked about my experience so far, my education and highlighted the key projects I'd undertaken. On the other hand, I was told more about the organisation and the role they had in mind for me. With a post-graduation in branding and identity design, I was more than happy to discuss the possibility of joining as a brand designer. We ended the call by confirming a face to face interview when I was back.
Tips: Easier said than done, but it helps to have a clear idea as to why did you apply for the job (just because you need money is not a good enough reason ;) )and what role do you see yourself in. I always keep a notepad and pen handy with important points scribbled so I don't miss speaking about something I've planned. Also, I write down important points discussed over the call which I ponder on later.

Round: Other Interview
Experience: Rather than specifying each and every question that I was asked, I'll share my experience of the interview. The first round was with the designer I had spoken to previously. I was made to feel very comfortable and was asked questions ranging from my interests to the book I was currently reading. After the discussion, I was given a short test. I had the task of redesigning a telephone bill and I had 30 minutes for it. The task was to mainly test analytical skills, information organisation, visual design skills and obviously a working in a tight deadline.

The second round of the interview was with one of the founders. This was the kind of interview that everyone is scared of. I literally didn't expect to hear from them after this interview. I was grilled about the theories, presented with scenarios and asked how I would deal with them and was asked the typical design process I would follow for a project. I tried my best to tackle all the questions that came my way.
Tips: It helps to keep your cool even under pressure. Probably that's what the interviewer is testing. Preparation about some usual questions makes you ready to answer when asked, like, what are your goals? what kind of work would you want to do? what makes you happy? If given a chance it's always good to ask logical questions about the organisation/work if you have any in mind.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The last round was a call from the head HR. This was a call where I had to talk about myself. Nothing related to the profession was asked. I had to describe to education, work experience and family background.
Tips: This is your chance to talk about your achievements outside the prescribed professional sphere. Subtly talk about the areas you've excelled and how that would help you in your career.

Skills: Thought Process, 1)communication
College Name: National Institue of Design Ahmedabad
Motivation: Having had previous experience in smaller design studios, I wanted to experience the corporate culture as well. This was the primary reason for me applying for a job at Globant India. Moreover, the role of a brand designer was very appealing for me. It was almost like I was getting the best of both worlds.
