Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Capital one usually conducts a data interpretation test to shortlist students for interviews.
This test also has some weightage in the final selections as it is a metric to judge your
speed and accuracy of calculations. There are 30 questions in 35 minutes so the strategy to crack
it is not to get stuck on confusing questions and maintain a good speed/accuracy balance.
50 students were shortlisted for interviews from among 160 who gave the test and the
cutoff must have been around 22 or 23 out of 30.
Tips: CAT questions help.
Know a bit about inflation.
Duration: 35 minutes
Total Questions: 30

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I was asked about a bank which borrows at 6% and lends at 10% to one class
of debtors and 20% to a riskier class. I had to determine the profitability of the
bank given a common dollar loss rate and average loan size. This was an easier
case and involved basic common sense to get to the final answer.
Tips: -Don't make errors in calculations
-Keep on communicating with the interviewer even if you get stuck.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I was first asked which factors might have led to the falling sales, for
which I gave around 6-7 possible reasons.
Then he gave me a lot of data about the breakfast chain and two possible
decisions the breakfast chain could make. I had to determine the viability
by analyzing the data given.
Tips: -Again be accurate in your calculations. Even a small mistake can lead to a wrong final conclusion.
-Imagine the company given and all possible sources it can derive revenues from.

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: I was introduced to the concept of transactors and revolvers
and given some basic information about their spending habit.
This was followed with an analysis of the profits to the credit card
company due to these two classes of credit card holders.
It is a bit confusing if you don't know how exactly credit card companies
earn money and what the cost of funds are for transactors.
Tips: -Know the terms used by credit card companies like interchange rate, cost of funds, dollar loss rate before your Capital One interview. Also know the sources of revenue of credit card companies.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The company came to our campus on day 3 and agreed to take walk-ins.
Therefore resume shortlisting was the procedure.
They had a cut off of 7 CGPA.
Tips: It would be good if you have some coding background with few projects. It could anything from class projects to your internships, extra-curricular or final year projects. Don't forget to mention what all programming language you know on your resume.

Round: Technical + HR Interview
Experience: The first round consists of two panels. One of them was asking HR. And the other was asking technical questions. They were just looking whether you have the basic technical knowledge and if given an offer you will join or not.
Tips: For technical knowledge, you can refer OOPs basic concepts, standard coding interview problems, geeksforgeeks, cracking the coding interview by Laxman Gayle etc. It would be better if you can first practice hr questions among your friends instead of going directly to interview. I found a youtube channel explains technical relatively easier and simpler way. you can follow that. Just try to show that you are interested in that company.
For HR questions, one can prepare from 64 HR questions.
For the basic OOPs concepts, one can read first 10 chapters from E.Balaguruswamy but any other OOPs book will also be fine.
Confidence is the key ace any interview!!

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was mainly to check your personality. He was trying to know whether you will fit in the company or not. Most of the question was from my personal life. They will see whether you are serious about your life or not.
Tips: Be ready to give them instances of your life where you did things differently. Try to show that you are passionate about the company. Try to show you have a clear vision in your life and working hard to achieve that.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: This round was just a formality. The HR from the second round interview introduced me to the third interviewer. He asked few question related to the family.
Tips: One important thing I would like to is that NEVER ASSUME THAT WHATEVER YOU TOLD TO YOUR PREVIOUS INTERVIEWER WILL BE KNOWN TO THE NEXT INTERVIEW. So, if you think some specific points will help you do good in an interview...just let him know. I could be anything your project, conference, paper presentation or your past life as well.
