Know what you are looking for in an employer and position. Focus on opportunities that are a good fit. Be congruent in expressing who you are and your accomplishments on your cover letter, resume, and during the interview. The whole while, be yourself!” – Karen

Interview Preparation Tips

Interview preparation tips for other job seekers - Botched up recruitment process.
So, I got shortlisted after applying for the content writing position via Naukri.com and was given a lengthy Google form to fill up as part of the first preliminary round. It contained various subjective questions which required more than a couple hours to answer, but I did not mind as the job seemed pretty lucrative for a fresher. After submitting my answers, there was no response from their side. I thought I wasn't selected and went on with my life. To my surprise, I got an E-mail a couple weeks later saying I got shortlisted for the second round which, in my case, was a telephonic interview. During the interview, I was handed another task in which I had to write an article and 2 E-mails. I completed the task and mailed it to the HR but got no response. I sent another mail to inquire about the status of my application but there was no intimation from their side whatsoever.
I did not expect them to select me for the job, but the least they could have done was convey their final decision to me. To leave people hanging after they have spent hours completing the tasks you have given them is distasteful.

I was interviewed in May 2017.

Interview Questionnaire

3 Questions

  • Q1. What was I looking forward to?
  • Q2. What was my experience till then?
  • Q3. What improvements could I suggest to increase the online reach and engagement for ambition box.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: I was asked to write in a few words about my life's best moment. I made sure that I wrote everything honestly and interestingly. Then I submitted it along with my resume and to my amazement, I was selected.
Tips: Please make sure that you add honest experience. Don't exaggerate or try to manipulate durations or marks. Everything gets checked once you get shortlisted.

Round: Test
Experience: I was asked to write about my dream career path. Being a career specific topic, it was a happy experience for me to write on it while telling my current situation and future endeavours.
Tips: Please use correct grammar. It matters, don't try to sound oversmart. There's a fine line between humour and slapstick comedy and serious companies like wit, not comedy. Again, honesty in your writeups go a long way. Detailed and minute explanations matter. It was better to build up the article by saying what was I doing and what was I planning to do step by step rather than writing how I want a great car and an expensive apartment.
Duration: 1 hour
Total Questions: 1

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I was called for an interview. I was guided very well by the team and to my amazement, the interviewer was quite polite. He made sure I was comfortable, paid attention to the fact that I had travelled, asked me to write articles on two topics. One topic was "resignation letter" and the second was "a day in the life of whatever I would like to be in future".
I was given an hour for the same and when the interviewer came back, he asked Me a few more questions. He also enquired about my own venture, educational background and was checking my marketing skills by asking for ideas.
Tips: Be confident and understand that this internship can be yours if you are sure about yourself.

Round: Selection.
Experience: I couldn't do a full time there so they generously allowed me to work for home! They judged my calibre and understood that it was impossible for me to travel to their office location daily.
Tips: Please put your questions and problems in front of employers nicely and honestly. If these problems are genuine, there's no way they won't understand.

Skills: Writing Skills, Creativity, Digital Marketing
