A Mechanical Designer was asked 2mo ago
Q. What is Newton's second law?
Ans.

Newton's 2nd Law states that force equals mass times acceleration (F=ma), explaining how objects move under applied forces.

  • The law can be expressed as F = ma, where F is force, m is mass, and a is acceleration.

  • An example: Pushing a car (mass) results in acceleration proportional to the force applied.

  • If two objects have the same force applied, the one with less mass will accelerate more.

  • In a vacuum, a feather and a...

Q. What are the different types of keys?
Ans.

Keys are mechanical components used to connect rotating parts, ensuring torque transmission and preventing relative motion.

  • Flat Key: A rectangular cross-section key used in shafts and hubs, e.g., in pulleys.

  • Square Key: A square cross-section key, often used in smaller applications like gears.

  • Woodruff Key: A semicircular key that fits into a keyway in a shaft, commonly used in automotive applications.

  • Taper Key: A w...

Q. What is the speed difference between two pulleys with radii r and 3r when driven by a belt?
Ans.

The speed difference between two pulleys is determined by their radii and the belt's constant speed.

  • The speed of a pulley is inversely proportional to its radius.

  • If pulley A has radius r and pulley B has radius 3r, then their speeds will differ.

  • Using the formula: Speed_A * Radius_A = Speed_B * Radius_B, we can derive the relationship.

  • For example, if Speed_A = 60 RPM for radius r, then Speed_B = 20 RPM for radius 3...

  • Negotiate with suppliers for better pricing

  • Explore bulk purchasing options for discounts

  • Redesign products to use cheaper materials or components

  • Consider outsourcing production to lower-cost regions

  • Implement lean manufacturing practices to reduce waste and improve efficie...

Q. What are the basic differences between torque and couple?
Ans.

Torque is a rotational force, while a couple consists of two equal and opposite forces causing rotation.

  • Torque is produced by a single force acting at a distance from a pivot point.

  • Example: Using a wrench to tighten a bolt applies torque.

  • A couple consists of two equal forces acting in opposite directions, creating rotation without translation.

  • Example: Turning a steering wheel involves a couple.

  • Torque is measured i...

Q. Draw sfd and bfd
Ans.

SFD and BFD are diagrams used in software engineering to visualize the flow of data and control in a system.

  • SFD (System Flow Diagram) shows the flow of data between different components in a system.

  • BFD (Block Flow Diagram) shows the flow of control between different components in a system.

  • Both diagrams help in understanding the overall structure and behavior of a system.

  • Examples: SFD can show how user input flows ...

An Engineer Trainee was asked
Q. What is a Zener diode?
Ans.

A Zener diode is a type of diode that allows current to flow in the forward direction like a normal diode, but also in the reverse direction if the voltage is above a certain value.

  • Zener diodes are commonly used in voltage regulator circuits.

  • They are designed to operate in the reverse breakdown region.

  • Zener diodes have a specific breakdown voltage, known as the Zener voltage.

An Assistant Engineer was asked
Q. Explain the different types of electrical loads.
Ans.

Electrical loads can be categorized into three types: resistive, inductive, and capacitive.

  • Resistive loads convert electrical energy into heat, such as incandescent light bulbs.

  • Inductive loads store energy in a magnetic field, such as motors and transformers.

  • Capacitive loads store energy in an electric field, such as capacitors in electronic circuits.

Why are women still asked such personal questions in interview?
I recently went for an interview… and honestly, m still trying to process what just happened. Instead of being asked about my skills, experience, or how I could add value to the company… the questions took a totally unexpected turn. The interviewer started asking things like When are you getting married? Are you engaged? And m sure, if I had said I was married, the next question would’ve been How long have you been married? What does my personal life have to do with the job m applying for? This is where I felt the gender discrimination hit hard. These types of questions are so casually thrown at women during interviews but are they ever asked to men? No one asks male candidates if they’re planning a wedding or how old their kids are. So why is it okay to ask women? Can we please stop normalising this kind of behaviour in interviews? Our careers shouldn’t be judged by our relationship status. Period.
