Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: 200 people sat for the aptitude test, which was conducted after CGPA based shortlisting for people who had submitted CVs.
Tips: Presence of mind, decent communication skills, creativity are at most required. It’s a long test, and each section has a separate cutoff. Manage your time well.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: An interactively moderated GD Session on a general topic (We had ‘’Buy one get one free’’, ‘’I’’ and so on). Two people were chosen by the mod to conclude at the end.
Tips: Take initiative, and make sense when you speak. Don’t meander on be concise and choose your words wisely. A great way to get noticed in this round is to make NEW points, points which give a new direction to the discussion. Only acting as a moderator may not be the best idea. Bring new points to the table. Don’t be intimidated by others at the table. Don’t be loud and incoherent. Be courteous to the others. Remember that the aim is to contribute to a fruitful discussion, and not to debunk points put forward by the other guys.

Round: Interview
Tips: Be thorough with your CV, and be ready to defend against doubts raised about what you’ve written. You should have a basic idea about the company - you will be asked questions about the industry in general and Flipkart specifically.

Round: Interview
Tips: Be honest (atleast seem honest!) and be prepared for general HR questions. Don’t frame your CV in a way that shows that you might be aiming for an MBA (like mentioning a high GMAT score) or an MS/Ph.D (overloading with research projects and the like).

General Tips: Be prepared with some solid research on this growing company (atleast I hope it keeps growing by the time you’re reading this!), and some basic HR questions/puzzles. Know your CV well, and appear confident and relaxed (pretty general funda I know but don’t get stressed). There’s nothing very specific you can do to prepare, so just give it your best shot as yourself. All the best!
Skill Tips: CGPA was an initial cutoff. 7.75+ should be peace. Yes, extra-acads are definitely looked at. Be sure to list out your achievements when you mention a particular position/activity. Aptitude test requires basic CAT skills. No coding skills required for the Management Trainee profile. Decent internships will definitely help your case. You are asked questions on what your work was during the internships and how you achieved goals.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: Questions based on C / C++ syntax, networking, OS, Algorithms and Data Structures and DBMS. A list of about 25 candidates was finally shortlisted for the next round .
Tips: Thorough knowledge on the CS topics mentioned above plus clear concepts of C / C++ syntax Think about the algorithm first. Get an outline of the brute force algorithm first and then try to optimize it. Dynamic Programming is a hot topic among interviewers. Be clear on it and how to use it . After thinking of the pseudo code, use your favourite language ( I used Python ). Read up as many blog reviews as possible from internet, you get sample questions from there.
Total Questions: 25

Round: Programming round
Experience: A problem statement was given and we had to write code on it in about an hour. Marking was done on concept used, Optimal code and consideration of all possible boundary cases .
Tips: Take care of boundary cases.

Round: Interview
Experience: Questions from the aforementioned topics in CS, coupled with a few real life scenarios where you might have to use algorithmic concepts to come up with an optimal solution. Occasionally, there can be some puzzle in which you are not expected to solve it in a flash, but work it step by step with your interviewer till you reach the solution.
Tips: Sound knowledge of all above mentioned CS concepts. Keep a steady head, don’t get bogged down by the comnplexity of the problem. You are not expected to know everything. But suppose you are given a choice to take a pick on some topic you want to be questioned on, make sure that you know it well. Don’t say ‘’I don’t know’’ in response to some question. Fight hard, make intelligent guesses.

Round: Interview
Experience: Specifics about who you are, what kind of a person you are, your likes, what you bring to the company.
Tips: Give honest answers. Stay honest .

General Tips: There is one word that beats all is practice. Some guys have the innate ability of performing very well in Quant problems. For the rest, including me, I would say, toil hard, get some CAT material from friends and practise as often as you can. Keep a clear mind and try thinking fast. Regarding programming, if you plan to join a software company, try to program as much as you can. There is no other alternative. IITs do not have good programmers, because we are made to focus more on theory. NITs and other places fare much better when pure programming is concerned. So get your terminals running, and practise programming in languages such as C / C++ (which should be at your tips ideally) and also get good at Java, Python and particularly crystal clear about Object Oriented Programming Concepts . Try to engage yourself in sports such as football, cricket, tennis, swimming, or weight lifting. Physical exercises do help ease out stress. Play some musical instrument like a synthesiser, a guitar or a harmonica. Read good books and so forth.
Skill Tips: You have to study and be aware of the concepts very clearly. Your fundamentals must be very strong. Apart from the usual such as Algorithms, Data Structures, you must also read vividly about Networking, Operating Systems Concepts and DBMS. Start preparing from around September. Plus you should be well prepared with C / C++ syntax, occasionally Python . Try to get relevant internships in areas of your research interest. If you are interested in Data Mining or AI, try getting internships in them. Work hard during internships.cf Turn up everyday at the workplace. Occasionally you can take time off for your weekend escapades to break the monotony. But don’t make it a habit. In short give it your best and make it count in your resume .

Be focused till you actually have offer in your hand. Tech events, Leadership qualities like positions in Hall, Gymkhana etc. in Tech committees would help a lot for these Technology companies. Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Tips: Cover all topics relating to C/C++ and OS. “Try to solve maximum questions in the written test. Start with the sections you like and after solving a significant number of questions, move on to other sections.
Duration: 120 minutes

Round: Other Interview
Experience: It was the final round of the selection process. I was asked about a few questions from the written test. Interview was mainly focused on my final year project. Pointed out a few things from resume and was asked about those.

General Tips: Your resume matters and don’t rely too much on your academic records, projects and internship matter, if it matches to their profile.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: A written test with common paper for ME and IM students and a separate paper for EC students. The test for ME and IM students comprised of 2 sections - mechanical and logical reasoning. The paper was very lengthy and the trick was to judge and attempt those questions which required less time.
Tips: Don’t spend too much time on any question.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: An unmoderated GD with 10 people in a group. The topic was based on situations very close to reality . This round requires critical thinking and the usual rules in a group discussion are applicable.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: A personal interview where the interviewer tries to find out more about you as a person.
Tips: Just be straightforward and don’t lie to save your face.

General Tips: CGPA between 8-8.5 necessary.
Good math, logic, and quantitative abilities as well as some programming skills.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The selection process for post graduate students started with group discussion. The eligible students were divide into groups of 10 or 12. A general topic was given to be discussed (E.g. Role of women in society, computers kill creativity etc). At the end of the discussion, the representative of the company might ask some queries to a few of the students (two or three), based on their statements in the GD.
Tips: Do’s: Write down your points in a piece of paper. Speak them clearly when you get your chance. Try to make your points brief, clear and relevant.
Don’ts: Do not try to overdo things. Please keep in mind that you ought to give opportunities to other group members.

Round: Test
Experience: You will be given a form and will be asked to tick your qualities. Please do it honestly. This was not an elimination round. In fact this was not found relevant in the whole process of recruitment.

Round: Interview
Experience: There were two representatives of the company in the interview panel-one from technical section and the other from HR. The technical part of the interview was mostly based on the topic (There could be extra questions if your CGPA is low). A relevant topic could help (If the topic is relevant, mention it in your CV as well). The HR questions were very straightforward. They might ask certain things from your CV as well. The location preference was one prime concern for them. HERO MOTOCORP is setting up a new R&D division in Jaipur and so wanted people to be willing to go to Jaipur. So they were very keen to know if we had any problem in working at Jaipur.

General Tips: Though CGPA is not the prime criteria of HERO MOTOCORP, we were told that they were looking for an optimum combination of different parameters (they didn’t reveal the parameters). Project topic can help a lot, especially if it is of interest to the company. Being a good team man and good communicator would help as group discussion would be the first step in the recruitment process.
Skill Tips: Proficiency in CFD softwares could help

5 Interview Rounds

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Test
Experience: I could'nt recall the exact number of questions and the duration but, they were pretty easy and basic. Anyone with little practice would be able to ace them easily. There was adequate time and overall it was a childsplay.
Tips: Prepare yourself thoroughly with the basic elementary maths. Having a habit of reading would help in answering reading comprehension quickly. Grammar was very easy.

Don't panic while solving logical ability questions. It's ok to leave some, if they don't "strike" at that point of time. Make sure you go through all questions once, whether or not you've answered them.

Round: Problem Statement
Experience: There were just 30 min to solve 3 questions which had sub-parts in them (9 in all). I was able to complete them just on time. it was a race with time and I enjoyed it.
Tips: Since time is a severe constraint, the key is to get a grasp of what data is given in the question quickly. There were many tables of data and the only deciding factor would be one's ability to understand the question quickly. Once you understand the question, getting the solution is EASY. So read the question quickly and carefully. Understand it and you would be able to do it. It was just a simple problem of arithmetic. HOLD YOUR NERVE. DON'T PANIC.

Round: Interview
Experience: I was asked to explain the solution to the problem that I solved in 30 minutes. It was cool. The interviewer was interested in my approach. I just explained what I did from the solution sheet.
Tips: Don't try to explain anything that you did'nt solve there during the stipulated time. especially if it invlves soem calculations. Be honest. Don't give answers that you picked up from people outside the room. They'll easily spot it. Some of my friends who did'nt answer all questions of the case were also got selected. BE HONEST. It's good to have a smile on your face. Be honest and keep smiling. "People like those who like themselves" :)

Round: Interview
Experience: It started with the standard question "tell me about yourself", later a guestimate was asked/a puzzle to some others. Again, I can't disclose it because of the non-disclosure agreement. there were follow up questions based on introduction and questions related to resume. the interviewer was very friendly and it was really cool. went on for about 20-25 minutes.
Tips: I repeat the quote "People like those who like themselves". You should feel good about yourself and that confidence should radiate from your face. keep smiling (a genuine smile, not a made up one. It's very easy to differentiate between one that comes from heart and lips :P ) . Prepare for this question well in advance. USE THE RIGHT WORDS ("I get tensed on having to manage several thing at once" and "I feel a bit uneasy when I have too many things on my plate, I'm trying to overcome this by maintaining a to-do list", both the statements mean the same but the latter can make a lot of difference . Have a clear idea of your strengths and weaknesses. Back them with examples. write your life story like an inspiring movie script. It does'nt matter even if there were no big spikes. You should be able to communicate to the interviewer that "I know myself. I believe in myself. I mean business". Be honest. liars are easily spotted. Just be yourself. DON'T FAKE anything.

Round: Interview
Experience: The interviewer was poker faced with absolutely no emotion on his face. To my astonishment, he later asked me questions from my engineering (metallurgy), which I did'nt expect in the wildest of my dreams (I was interviewing for a consultancy :P). it went on for about 20 minutes.
Tips: Don't panic. Stick to an answer, once you have given one. Don't change it, even if asked to. CONFIDENCE is the key. have a smile on your face and tell yourself that the interviewer is having a tough time trying to hide his emotions (he bursted out into laughter after my interview), which will give you some comfort. They want to see how you react under pressure. Just have a smile on your face and answer the questions, not his emotions. REMEMBER, Integrity has no substitute.

General Tips: "People like those who like themselves", have a review of your life, write your story the way it inspires you. Confidence radiates only if you feel good about yourself. prepare well and that will add to your confidence. Be honest. Be yourself. Keep smiling.
Skill Tips: Prepare for the question "tell me about yourself" well in advance. your strengths and weaknesses backed with examples of real life instances and how you are trying to overcome your weaknesses. KEEP SMILING.

Be well prepared for the aptitude test. It was very basic, so i'm not mentioning any books here.
Skills: Working under pressure, Your awareness about yourself, Confidence
College Name: IIT KHARAGPUR
Motivation: The profile was Business Operations Associate. I wanted to get into a job that would give insights into the way business is carried out, the problems and functioning. ZS being a reputed firm and given the profile, i applied for it.
Funny Moments: I was waiting for the result after giving the stress interview. The company people were coming out once every 10 minutes, calling some name and informing them whether or not they were selected. One of my friend who had 3 lengthy HR interviews (I had 2 very short ones :P) was informed of his selection, even before I gave my case interview. I had a feeling that the interviews went well, but just then a guy who was with me for quite some time was informed of his rejection. I was confused, when a guy came out and called my name, pulse was on the rise. He came towards me with a poker face, stood in front of me for a while and said "Congratulations, we are making the offer. Thank you for bearing with us through out the day" :D (earlier in the interview, i had mentioned that i had'nt eaten anything since morning, the later part was a reply to that). Those words gave a lot of satisfaction, a parker and a tray of ferro rocher chocolates :P :D

Interview Preparation Tips

General Tips: They do seem to look for guys with good CGPA. Because most students selected for the final round had high CG. They took a test right after the PPT. However, the questions were too simple and most people must have done reasonably well in that test. I think the resume played a major role in making the final shortlist for the interviews.
Skill Tips: Practice your coding. Solve problems from forums like SPOJ, UVA Online Judge etc. And remember that dynamic programming is a blessing.
The most important skill they tested was algorithms (design and analysis). Remember DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING and data structures. The questions were pretty involved. Good coding skills are a must.
