It provides more flexibility in terms of working location ie office or home and even in some cases it is fully remote. Lots of talented technical individuals specially IC's. there are multiple training opportunities to learn wider range of technologies and applications

Dislikes

No Salary Hike even after COVID Higher Management is very lethargic and is just interested in grabbing names for themselves at the cost of talented IC's No Job Stability as we frequently hear of RFI Promotion opportunities are very limited

1. No hikes for 5-7 years straight. Not because of personal performance. Just with excuse the company doesnt have budget. 2. Trainings are frowned upon by managers. No budget for that again. 3. Teams work with a blame game culture. Other teams just dont use cuss words, rest all is hurled at one another. You will get lot of free oracle courses and free exams. You will get good technical work,lot of challenges to learn new things in your domain. You will get chance to learn new technologies which comes under Oracle.

No work life balance (depending on your client). Sometime unrealistic expectations. No fix appraisal cycle. Sometime no hike for 2-3 years.

Work life friendly and slow company (at least my division, but I hear the same across orgs. OCI is a little hectic but nowhere close to Amzn, Googl etc.) You can have a life and can continue learning since you get lot of time.

Dislikes

Can be top heavy. Non competent people across job families. Every other person gets hired as Director, Sr. Director or Principal. Since it doesn't let people go till you have committed a legal / compliance blunder, people stick here for decades. You stay long enough here and will be irrelevant in market.

Oracle has customers world wide so the work that you do impacts many people. This gives a huge satisfaction as a Software Developer. The work life balance is great where 5-6 hours of solid work is enough to get you through your daily tasks. I have not heard of any layoffs in Oracle's Application Development Unit so the job security is great.

Dislikes

Salaries at Oracle are not standardized at all. Fresh college graduates will make more than you if you are a lateral entry joining after 1-2 years FTE. The main difference is in stocks. Tier 1 fresh graduates get around 50k USD in stocks and if you join as an IC2 with 1-4 years of experience, you get 0. The salary desparity is huge and as far as I have heard, the hike cycles are non existent. With regards to learning, as an Applications Developer at Oracle, you will work with Internal tools like VBS and ADF which are not widely used in the industry. These are low code tools which require good problem solving and debugging skills to master but do not require hands on coding as such.
