I am currently working as SALP on goods train. Medical facilities, train pass, and a little respect in society bcoz you are working in Railways. Salary is somewhat good. At the end of the month, I take 75,000+ monthly gross salary, out of which 7500+ is deducted. So, now my net salary is 67-68k per month.

Dislikes

Life is very hectic and no work schedule. Average duty hours is 10-12 hrs. Sleep routine is disturbed. When I go to work, I stay out of home for 1-2 days, and when I come back I only get 16-20 hrs to spend at home. Very strict job. Even a little mistake isn't tolerated because the post falls into safety category. You will earn a lot in this post, but won't get to spend it.

There is different promotional avenues for direct cadres and departmental cadres for reaching Gazette status.with many years in Gazette cadre departmental prom9tees suffer much in growing whereas dires cadres have time bound promotion

I jointed in South East Central Railway, Waltair Difvision in 1987. I am fortunate that I worked, in Vishakapatnam (AP), Rayagada (Orissa), Jagadalpur & Bilaspur (CG), Chandapur & Nagpur (MH) and retired from Nagpur, South East Central Railway. Before joining Railways, I was with L&T ECC Construction Group (Chennai) for at least5 years. Hence, I started my tenure in railways very comfortably. L&T policy "You must be Jack of all trades, may be master of none". The same policy I have adopted while working in Railways. I am very fortunate to work in all sections of Engineering Department like Personnel, Store, Contractual Bills, Tender and General administration etc., Even though I am non technical person and being a Commerce Graduate with PG(Dip)in LLPM., I got opportunity to work in Estimating and Drawing sections also due to my commitment. I have so many better views in my mind, 'to develop the working skills with less man days' but, due to huge scale of the organisation and lengthy procedures, I did not have the opportunity to implement those views.

They provide excellent security during job and Staff is friendly and helping. We feel nothing is impossible they are all teaches us. Just feel like everything is easy.

Indian Railway is biggest in central government. The work culture is not upto mark due to basic facilities is not provided each and every employee. The management is totally depending on higher officials.

In Indian Railway the ministerial cadre of promotions are very less in compare with accounts department.
