Boss Taking Phones at Work? Normal Hai Kya?
At my first job (which I quit within a few weeks), my boss had a bizarre rule every employee had to hand over their phone the moment they clocked in. She’d lock them up in her office, and we could only get them back during lunch or after the shift. Felt like school all over again📵
I even asked if I could just keep my phone in my pocket without using it, but she shut me down with a strict "Bilkul nahi, yeh allowed nahi hai!"
So, I found a jugaad gave her an old phone and kept my real one with me.😏
I get that phones can be a distraction, but locking them up like we’re in a hostel? Seriously? Have you ever faced a rule like this at work? Curious to know if this is common or just a one off nightmare.

some workplaces, especially in high-security or customer-facing roles, do have strict phone policies. But locking them up? Feels excessive.

Phone policies should be about productivity, not control. A no-distraction policy is fine, but this sounds like micromanagement.

If productivity is a concern, a silent mode or locker system outside workstations should be enough. Taking phones completely seems extreme.

This rule might work in factories or high-security environments, but in an office setting? Big red flag!

Good call on quitting. If a company doesn’t trust its employees with basic autonomy, that’s a workplace culture issue.
