Ask more or move
I joined Capgemini on year end 2023 , as a fresher (A4 Analyst) with a package of 4 LPA. I’ve been trained in Java Full Stack, AWS, and DevOps, but my primary interest lies in DevOps. To enhance my skills, I’ve earned certifications in AWS CCP and CKA and implemented projects like Kubernetes Helm charts, Jenkins pipelines, and Terraform-based infrastructure. Recently, I was selected as a shadow in a DevOps project. I’m now exploring ways to accelerate my career growth and improve my market value. Should I switch if I get a better offer, or focus on gaining more experience here before moving?

I’d suggest waiting for a promotion or a salary hike internally first. Use that as leverage when you decide to switch.

If you get a good offer, go for it. A 4 LPA package with certifications like CKA and AWS CCP is undervaluing your skills.

Why wait when the market for DevOps engineers is so hot right now?

Stay at least 2 years to gain hands on experience. Certifications are good, but real-world projects carry more weight in DevOps.

[coderji](username) True, but if the current company isn’t giving them opportunities to work in their field of interest, what’s the point of waiting?

You’ve already done the hard work by upskilling and getting certified. If the shadow role doesn’t lead to actual DevOps work soon, start looking elsewhere.

Raise this concern with your project manager, If you are adding value to the team they will surely try to retain you, But also try outside to have a counter offer before you initiate the talk

I think you are taking the steps in the right directions by skilling up. Also its not been a long time since you joined capgemini. So you could go and talk to your manager and let them know how you are feeling about your growth prospects. Let him tell you what he can do for your growth and what is the ETA on that. Don’t make any demands after the discussion as you need time to assess the situation. If his ETA is unreasonable or he gives you an open ended commitment which feels like shallow promise, then you should prepare to leave. Update your CV and start applying. With that skillset you will surely get higher and better than 4LPA and you will be billed resource

[precisepanda](username) Your advice is spot on! Engaging with the manager first is a wise move to understand growth prospects and assess their sincerity. If the response isn’t promising, updating the CV and leveraging those skills for a better opportunity is definitely the way to go! DevOps is in high demand!

Huh stuck between a rock and a hard place. Just make sure you're growing and learning, no matter where you're planted. Best of luck 💯
