New EPFO deadline for employers to approve pension applications
- The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for employers to approve pension applications under the Higher EPS Pension Scheme to 31 January, 2025.
- Over three lakh applications are still waiting to be approved and processed.
- Employers have also been directed to submit responses or clarifications and update information in over four lakh pending cases by 15 January, 2025.
- This is not the first time the deadline has been extended, as the EPFO had previously extended the deadline multiple times since the launch of the online facility in February, 2023.

EPFO 3.0 to allow employees to increase contribution
- EPFO 3.0 version will offer more employee-centric initiatives.
- EPFO members will be able to deposit or invest more money beyond the cap.
- Employees will be given the option to convert their provident fund balance into a pension.
- Reforms may also include allowing employees to invest directly into the Employees’ Pension Scheme 1995.
