- AST SpaceMobile successfully unfurled five enormous BlueBird satellites in low Earth orbit.
- The satellites have a surface area of 693 square feet (64 square meters) and will shine brighter than nine of the 10 brightest stars with a magnitude of 0.4.
- AST SpaceMobile plans to deploy 100 or more of these massive satellites to improve cellular telephone coverage in regions with limited connectivity.
- However, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) raises concerns that the BlueBird constellation will degrade the night sky and interfere with radio astronomy.
