Software Engineer III

Position Summary





Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities

Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices

What youll do

• Research, guide, and execute frontend architecture changes, including but by no means limited to GraphQL, server-side React rendering and Flow typing
  
  
• Build reusable React components with modular CSS, manage data on the client with React Query and GraphQL, and test everything with Jest
  
  
• Measure and resolve performance bottlenecks, using tools like Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, WebPagetest, or custom tooling
  
  
• Refactor or improve existing code
  
  Weve migrated most of our frontend to React
  
  And we constantly find ways to improve all of our JavaScript code
  
  
• Work closely with our product, design, and UX teams to create amazing and intuitive experiences that make it effortless to connect different apps together
  
  
• Help put tools, processes, and documentation in place to improve our code quality
  
  
• Review code written by other team members or other teams
  
  
• Ship to hundreds of thousands of users every day while having lots of autonomy in terms of code and feature ownership
  
  
• Work with complex and varied data structures (APIs can be a little, uh, eccentric)
  
  
• Help out with our React-based developer platform
  
  
• Share what you know and learn either one-on-one or with lightning talks to the group
  
  
• Give back to the community via open source and blog posts
  
  
• Experiment: this is a startup-like environment so everything can change as we experiment with doing more custom partnership work
• As a part of Walmart Labs all-hands philosophy, help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible
  
  
• Closely collaborate with other platform team members across across web, iOS and Android app and define uniform solutions for all platforms
• Provide documentation for all the solutions in place
• Inspire best Practices and create culture of craftsmanship and innovation
  
  
• Utilizes industry research to improve Wal-Marts technology environment by analyzing industry best practices; bench marking industry against internal processes and solutions; researching or influencing future industry solutions for fit with internal needs; and defining software development guidelines, standards and processes
  
  

• 3-6+ years of modern web development experience
• Understanding in software development using modern languages (React JS, Typescript)
• Thorough understanding of React
  
  JS and its core principles
• Own code quality and experience in writing extensive unit tests
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools
• Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and frameworks quickly
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines ,Docker, Kubernetes
  
  
• Ability to deliver in Agile method (SCRUM)

• Large scale distributed systems experience, including scalability and fault tolerance
  
  
• A continuous drive to explore, improve, enhance, automate and optimize systems and tools
  
  
• Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures and algorithms
• Exposure to information retrieval and statistics
  
  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
  
  

Minimum Qualifications





Minimum Qualifications:Option 1: Bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or related area and 2years experience in software engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company



Option 2: 4 years experience in software engineering or related area at a technology, retail, or data-driven company

Preferred Qualifications





Certification in Security+, Network+, GISF, GSEC, CISSP, or CCSP, Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related area Primary Location
