Engineer - R&D (Pumps)

Role & responsibilities

• Product Design:
• Prepare 3D and 2D CAD drawings for the development of components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Apply DFMA and GD&T principles in the design process.
• Conduct design reviews with supervisors and cross-functional teams.
• Perform hand calculations for design validation of various components.
• Tooling and Manufacturing:
• Need strong understanding of tooling design and allowances for sand casting, pressure die casting, sheet metal operations, and injection molding processes.
• Prepare tooling designs for prototype manufacturing.
• Geometry Preparation and Meshing:
• Prepare and clean up geometry and create high-quality meshes using tools like SolidWorks, ANSYS (SpaceClaim, ICEM CFD, Fluent Mesh/Workbench Mesh, etc.), and open-source tools (Salome, blockMesh, snappyHexMesh, cfMesh, etc.).
• CAE (FEA and CFD Analysis)
• Build CFD simulation cases, assign material properties, select appropriate physics, turbulence models, schemes, and linear solvers, and optimize models for accuracy, stability, and performance.
• Conduct CFD analysis using CFX/OpenFOAM solvers to analyze and improve the hydraulic design of pumps.
• Conduct static and dynamic structural analysis using ANSYS Mechanical.
• Validate designs for both linear and non-linear materials and perform fatigue analysis (HCF & LCF), kinematic analysis, harmonic, and modal analysis.
• Apply principles of numerical methods, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer to solve practical problems.
• Testing and Collaboration:
• Coordinate with testing laboratories and academic institutions for materials testing.
• Analyze material test results, suggest changes in design if needed, and prepare comprehensive reports.
• Good understanding of testing specifications and standards for pump and motor testing.
• Understand pump and motor test results do draw valid conclusions.
• Data Analysis, Automation and Programming:
• Should have sound knowledge in various mathematical methods for analysis of signal data in time and frequency domain and draw conclusions.
• Develop automation scripts and perform data manipulation and analysis using Python and its libraries.
• Build and validate ML models to support design and analysis workflows.
• Develop scripts (VBA, bash, etc.) for automation of different software workflows.
• Utilize HPC systems for parallel computation on CPUs and GPUs to enhance simulation efficiency.
• Good understanding of high-speed data acquisition from sensors using microcontrollers.
• Value Engineering and Problem Solving:
• Support complaint analysis and implement design changes for performance and durability improvements.
• Optimize designs, create custom machines/fixtures to enhance productivity, and explore alternate materials, manufacturing processes, and automation opportunities.

Preferred candidate profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in CFD analysis using ANSYS CFX/Fluent, OpenFOAM or any CFD software.
• Good understanding of pre-processing strategies for improving accuracy and reducing the computation time.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in using Solidworks for 3d modelling, assembly and drafting.
• Willingness and motivation to learn and unlearn.
• Good knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in conducting structural analysis using ANSYS Mechanical or any FEA software.
• Education: UG: B.Tech/B.E. – Mechanical Engineering or any related discipline
• Overall Experience: 2 to 3 years
