Job Description

  1. Production Oversight:
    • Supervise the entire spinning process, including cotton, wool, or synthetic fiber preparation, spinning, winding, and yarn finishing.
    • Manage the production schedule to ensure targets are met, including setting up daily, weekly, and monthly production goals.
    • Ensure efficient use of materials, labor, and machines to meet production quotas while minimizing wastage and downtime.
  2. Team Leadership & Supervision:
    • Lead and manage a team of workers in the spinning department, including operators, technicians, and maintenance staff.
    • Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance and support to staff.
    • Train new staff on machine operation, safety procedures, and best practices.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to improve performance.
  3. Quality Control:
    • Oversee quality control at each stage of the spinning process to ensure yarn quality meets standards (strength, twist, evenness, etc.).
    • Implement corrective actions if quality standards are not met and ensure the final product meets customer specifications.
    • Conduct regular inspections of spun yarn to identify any defects and troubleshoot any quality issues.
  4. Machine Operation and Maintenance:
    • Ensure the proper operation of all spinning machinery, including ring spinning, open-end spinning, or air-jet spinning machines.
    • Coordinate with maintenance teams for routine maintenance and ensure preventive measures are taken to avoid machine breakdowns.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and minimize downtime to keep production running smoothly.
    • Ensure that all machines are calibrated correctly and maintained in optimal condition.
  5. Material Management:
    • Oversee the inventory of raw materials (fibers, chemicals, etc.) and ensure there are adequate supplies to meet production requirements.
    • Work with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and prevent production delays.
    • Monitor and manage material consumption to minimize waste and reduce costs.
  6. Process Improvement:
    • Continuously assess spinning operations for opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and quality.
    • Implement lean manufacturing principles and other cost-reduction initiatives to optimize the spinning process.
    • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of new processes and machinery.
  7. Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Enforce and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations in the spinning department.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure employees follow proper safety protocols.
    • Provide training on safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  8. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
    • Quickly identify and resolve production issues, such as machine breakdowns, quality problems, or worker shortages.
    • Work closely with the maintenance department to address any technical issues with the spinning machinery.
    • Maintain smooth operation during shifts and ensure that any operational disruptions are minimized.
  9. Reporting & Documentation:
    • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to upper management.
    • Keep accurate records of machine performance, maintenance schedules, and production statistics.
    • Analyze production data to identify trends, challenges, or inefficiencies in the process.
  10. Cost Control:
    • Monitor and control costs related to labor, materials, and production processes to ensure the department operates within budget.
    • Identify areas for cost savings and work to improve efficiency without compromising on quality.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree in Textile Engineering or related field.
    • Specialized training in spinning technology or textile manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Experience:
    • 15+ years of experience in the textile industry, with significant experience in the spinning department or similar production roles.
    • Proven experience in a leadership role, with an understanding of spinning machines and processes.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and people management abilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of spinning machinery (ring spinning, rotor spinning, etc.) and related processes.
    • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to monitor and maintain high-quality standards throughout production.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with workers, supervisors, and upper management.
    • Good understanding of inventory management and material handling.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in machine operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of modern spinning technologies and innovations.
  • Familiarity with textile production software for scheduling, inventory, and quality control.

Working Conditions:

  • This role typically requires working in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • The position may require shifts or working during weekends, depending on the production schedule.
  • Safety equipment (gloves, ear protection, etc.) must be worn while on the production floor.

This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful operation of the spinning department, contributing to the overall efficiency and productivity of the textile mill. The Spinning Head is responsible for maintaining production quality, ensuring safety, and managing a skilled team to meet organizational goals.
