Director - Business Regulatory Projects

This position is within ICS in India & will report to the Vice President Business Regulatory Projects, AEBC. The incumbent would be functionally responsible for project managing critical regulatory projects, which would span across business units of AEBC.

Purpose of the Role:

The primary focus of this role is to spearhead management, oversight and successful delivery of one or more regulatory projects with moderate level of complexity; through effective thought leadership, enterprise thinking and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders - within and outside of AEBC.

This role would require outstanding leadership and influencing skills, strong personal accountability of delivery of complex change management initiatives, extensive knowledge of American Express products, processes, and platforms, strong project management discipline and exceptional communication skills.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

• Working closely with the VP Business Regulatory Projects & Other Business Heads in AEBC to drive an agile implementation of regulatory projects.
• Assessing new and changing regulations in partnership with GCO, Compliance, CISO and Operational Excellence teams to determine impacts across the enterprise.
• Extensive collaboration with global functional teams across numerous business units and with controls functions for effective implementation and delivery of high priority projects.
• Effective program management (and documentation), including definition of principles, tools, processes, roles and responsibilities and effective communication and management protocols of risks, issues and changes.
• Representing American Express with key industry forums and associations focused on industry interpretation of regulatory requirements.
• Implementing and maintaining Global as well as local best practices covering policy, risk management, governance and reporting.
• Leading and developing a team of highly skilled Business Project Managers.

Skills & Experience:

• Proven business leader with strong technical skills, able to demonstrate driving success in large complex multi-market change efforts in an agile environment, working with senior level stakeholders, and of being able to lead and influence without direct authority.
• Strong enterprise thinking, organization abilities & communication skills.
• Proven ability to adopt & lead a team to embrace safe & sound business practices while operating in dynamic and highly evolving environment.
• Payments industry experience, including knowledge of payments regulation and its impact on payment networks, acquirers and issuers; keen interest in developments in the Reg-Tech space.
• Understanding of key AXP operations and technology functions with proven ability to navigate AXP organization and to effectively drive results.
• Strong thought leadership, business acumen & execution skills to nurture a sound working relationship with the regulators. Strong control and compliance focus.
• Experience of regulatory change management either within the business, operational excellence or compliance preferred.
• Track record for change management and delivery in complex and highly-matrixed organizations.
• High intellectual curiosity & critical thinking with the ability to understand new concepts quickly, deal with ambiguity and solve complex problems.
• Strong relationship and collaboration skills with the ability to influence a broad group of stakeholders across the organization, at all levels.
• Outstanding communicator with the ability to communicate complex topics in a clear and effective manner, adapting communications based on the audience.
• Candidates with over 12 years of experience with an MBA/Masters would be preferred.
