Manager - R&D (MBM)

Position Summary:

It is the ambition of Nuvoco to speed-up Innovation and research through partnerships around construction systems, especially in emerging markets which are key stakes for Nuvoco It is simultaneously important to promote our central innovations and to build upon our know-how expertise (technological platforms) to answer specific local needs.

Leading and pursuing the research work on development of newer and improved building materials viz Construction Chemicals, Polymers & Adhesives, Blocks & Bricks, Paints and other Cementitious materials.

CDIC is built to bring innovation and developments closer to markets. To innovate locally through the development of products and construction systems. It has in 5 main tasks:

• to Benchmark and analyze performance of both new/existing construction systems and innovative competitors alternatives
• to Experiment in-house innovative materials, products & systems in a framework of system performance evaluation
• to Demonstrate that developed innovative materials, products & systems meet design expectations and could ultimately achieve jobsite/market acceptance
• to Create value for the Construction industry out of our innovative materials, products and systems
• Build partnership at all levels of construction industry and academics.

Given this context, it is expected that the Scientist is able to manage research projects in respect of the CDIC deliverables. Scientist will direct the day-to-day project activity through interaction with technical personnel while gathering, analyzing and interpreting scientific data. This role requires proven scientific /technical skills as a professional in the field of Construction Chemicals, Polymer & adhesive Science, Cement based material science or related fields including consulting, leadership, and collaboration working with a team of professionals. The Scientist will work closely with day-to-day activities of technicians and report directly to the head of CDIC. He is expected to develop a strong building material expertise for Nuvoco.

Job Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate leadership around everyday safety
• Seeking assignments in R&D formulations / Technical Services in Construction Chemicals, Polymers & Adhesives & Paint Industry
• Conduct research studies and projects thru the management of a team of researchers/internships
• Testing of products in hose & third party testing for various building material products.
• Conduct product application testing & demos for internal & external customers.
• Enhance CDIC projects quality by scientific inputs
• Document and formalize CDIC know-how from the said research studies
• Develop a network of scientists/professors/universities around CDIC challenges and Nuvoco long-term strategy
• Organize seminar/lectures around our materials & our research interests
• Carry bibliographic studies

Key Result Areas:

Safety management system implementation

Implement the CDIC safety management system for every person entering the CDIC and showing them that safety is not just restricted to our work places, but it has to be taken care of anywhere we move irrespective of the time and place. Adopt a visible leadership around the management of our everyday safety, inside but also outside the CDIC.

Network around Scientists & Universities and CDIC promotion

Develop an active scientific network around the CDIC and our materials, being in touch with the various scientists and professors (both internal & external) of Civil Engineering in India, ultimately making the promotion of the CDIC and the research at Nuvoco. Meet various influential institutes / authorities that could trigger the acceptance of the products and systems developed by CDIC. Establish a list of competencies, facilities and contacts over India. Participation to lecture / conferences / workshops in relation to material and civil engineering sciences.

Research in support to Nuvocos long-term targets for various building materials

Work on research study basis, while developing comprehensive knowledge and knowhow about our materials and their derived products & systems. Work together with scientists, professors and student teams to better understand the interest, ultimately, developing collaboration with them on common strategically interesting subjects. Be in touch with the innovators and Inventors.

Technological research

Explore and document the use of innovative cementitious and other building materials that could be implemented in our manufacturing units; technology obviously in favor of environmentally friendly materials

Scientific and technological watch

By close monitoring of the above, identify new ideas of scientific studies which may lead to actual R&D projects and gather, analyz and interpret scientific data, track evolutions of our material Science.
