The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Student Success provides visionary leadership and strategic direction to enhance the academic, personal, and professional success of students. The AVP oversees key programs and services that foster student retention, persistence, graduation, and career readiness. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic or Student Affairs, this position collaborates with academic, administrative, and external stakeholders to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach to student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive student success strategy aligned with the institution's mission and goals.
- Lead data-driven initiatives to improve retention, persistence, and graduation rates.
- Oversee the assessment and enhancement of student support programs and services.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate academic and co-curricular experiences.
Program Oversight:
- Supervise departments and units focused on student success, including academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, career services, first-year experience, and student engagement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Implement equity-focused practices to address barriers to student success for underrepresented and underserved populations.
Collaboration and Advocacy:
- Build and sustain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, alumni, and community organizations.
- Advocate for student needs and resources to senior leadership and external funding bodies.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive campus climate for all students.
Data and Assessment:
- Utilize institutional data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities related to student outcomes.
- Develop metrics and reporting systems to track progress on student success initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards related to student support.
Administrative Duties:
- Manage budgets, personnel, and resources within the division of student success.
- Lead professional development initiatives for staff to promote a culture of excellence.
- Represent the institution at regional and national conferences and events focused on student success.
Qualifications:
Required:
- A masters degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field (doctoral degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10years of progressive leadership experience in student success or related areas.
- Demonstrated success in implementing data-informed strategies to improve student outcomes.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred:
- Experience with first-generation, low-income, or historically underrepresented student populations.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with student success technology platforms and tools.
