Job Summary:
Job Summary:
- Responsible for defining the legal framework necessary to ensure that HRPL remains compliant with all legal requirements.
- Interprets transaction-related legal statutes applicable to the company's business, leads all transaction legal work, and both does and oversees legal site signings/documentation processes for new restaurant openings.
- Responsible for leading all litigation and adversarial matters, defining the legal framework necessary to ensure that HRPL remains as risk-free as possible.
- To this end, interprets litigation-related legal statutes applicable to the company's business and leads adversarial and litigation matters.
- Maintains and builds a strong and responsive network of external lawyers in different cities.
- Writes the RE Legal site signings/documentation processes for new restaurant openings and also the processes for non-RE legal matters.
- Is the monitor and custodian of Legal G&A expenditure under different heads.
- Is a good people manager, an approachable and friendly "people person", and demonstrates strong people development skills.
- Is able to carry a team along (whether within or outside of the Legal function) in difficult or challenging work situations.
- Is strongly networked within the Company across different functions, as also with team members internally within the Legal function.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Develops and establishes frameworks/ processes to ensure legal compliance by all functions
2. Creates and reviews legal policies within the defined legal frameworks
3. Develops and establishes framework/ processes to ensure prevention and management of litigation and adversarial issues, like legal notices
4. Creates and reviews legal policies and processes within the defined legal frameworks, as regards litigation and adversarial issues
5. Builds a robust talent pipeline within the function for effective succession
Key functional responsibilities :
1. Provides day to day advice, expert legal counsel and support to the business from the legal and regulatory perspective (including matters relating to legislation, property, tax, risk)
2. Keeps a watch on emerging laws and prepares the relevant functions ahead of incoming laws.
- Conducts impact assessments on HRPL business and ensures appropriate communication of the same along with written process documents, with focus on risk mitigation as to litigation and adversarial issues.
- Example areas or domains include Food Law, Legal Metrology, Stamp duty law, Registration law, and so on
3. Deploys all preventive means to limit the company's legal risk and exposure, from a transaction legal point of view
4. Day-to-day allocates and balances specific RE Legal and non-RE Legal contract or other documentation work across members of the Legal team. Participates in Real Estate Team interactions and represents the Legal function there, such as the Development Board, the Regional RE meetings, and so on
5. Assists the HOD in external stakeholder interactions, such as those involving industry associations
6. Prepares non-standard documents in relation to RE Legal that can become standard documents for the future
7. Prepares and administers legal training courses to personnel in non-Legal functional areas
8. Responds to legal notices prior to actual litigation, and also manages external lawyers who may be involved to respond to such notices. Reviews the case background & documentation in litigations
9. Appears with counsel and represents HRPL before court/ tribunal/ arbitrator/ statutory authority/ government authority as required.
Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency:
1. Maintains desired relationships with external legal experts (lawyers and law firms in different practice domains and different cities) for effective functioning
2. Ensures support to 'internal customers' and stakeholders as per defined quality, cost and time metrics. Prioritizes and allocates activities to effectively manage the legal obligations
3. Aggressively and continuously looks for and deploys various means for reducing both costs and timelines of transaction legal work, compliance, litigation and adversarial issues, without compromising on either speed and quality of delivery
