Designation - Head Safety
Department: EHS
Reports to: ED
The Safety Head is responsible for ensuring that all safety policies, procedures, and practices are followed within the organization to maintain a safe working environment. This role is critical in ensuring that the production of defence-related products meets all regulatory safety standards, manages risks and protects both employees and assets from harm.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety programs, protocols, and standards.
- Oversee safety audits and inspections, identifying potential hazards and ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Ensure compliance with national safety regulations, especially those relevant to Defence manufacturing.
- Manage the safety aspects of product design and development, ensuring that safety standards are integrated into the production lifecycle.
2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Conduct regular risk assessments, including process safety, environmental hazards, and security risks related to our products.
- Analyse and mitigate risks, especially those related to sensitive or hazardous materials used in defence products.
- Implement emergency response plans for accidents or breaches, and lead safety drills and training sessions.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with changes in safety regulations and defence industry standards.
- Ensure the organization is compliant with regulations related to workplace safety, hazardous materials, and defence manufacturing standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external agencies for inspections and audits.
4. Training and Awareness:
- Organize safety training and awareness programs for all levels of staff, ensuring they are well-versed in safety protocols, emergency procedures, and equipment handling.
- Foster a safety-first culture, encouraging employees to proactively identify and report safety hazards.
5. Incident Investigation and Reporting:
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and safety incidents to identify root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain records for internal and regulatory purposes.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with production, engineering, quality assurance and other departments to integrate safety considerations into all operations.
- Provide expert guidance on safety measures during product development and manufacturing stages.
7. Continuous Improvement:
- Lead initiatives to continuously improve safety practices and foster innovation in safety measures.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and ensure that the organization meets its safety goals and targets.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety. A master's degree is a plus.
- Certification in Safety Management (e.g., ADIS, NEBOSH, OSHA) is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience (20+ years) in safety management, preferably from manufacturing sectors.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in high-security environments.

- Ability to lead and influence safety practices across multiple departments.
- Understanding of industry processes, products, and associated hazards.
Additional Requirement:
- Flexibility to work on weekends or outside standard hours when required.
